COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Named to commemorate the La Salle Hotel, once a Seattle bawdy house and the original home of the Pike Brewing Company. Old Bawdy is a vintage-dated, high-gravity beer brewed with peated Scotch malt. It has a deep golden bronze color, a fruity rich taste, and an aggressive and dominating hop character with smoky undertones that are reminiscent of Scotch whiskey.

BeerPrince (1701) - Vancouver, British Columbia, - MAY 20, 2008
Hazy orangey red beer with almost no head but some sediment. Nose was very sweet caramel and a touch of alcohol. Some heat upfront and rather sweet with lots of caramel and some sweet fruit. Some citrus hops sneak in at the finish.

Bomber, 2012 vintage. Caramel malt aroma with notes of peaty smoke, dark fruit and grassy and floral hops. Pours cloudy caramel colored with a thin tan head that has little retention or lacing. Starts with caramel malt and dark fruit flavors with peaty smoke notes. Finishes dry with grassy and floral hops as well as light citrus hops. Pretty good barleywine.

This gets worse as it goes along. Smells nicely of grass and molasses, with a nice similar first flavor. However, it gets sweeter the deeper in the bottle get, which, for a 2-year old bottle isn’t great. Maybe it’ll mellow out even more as it gets older, but I was hoping for a bit more here.

It pours cloudy medium brown with a tinge of orange and a light brown head. The aroma has plenty of sweet malt with bread and caramel. It also has aroma of plums and floral elements. It also has hints of citrus that is orange like. The malt is predominant with a balance between the esters and hops in the background. The malt flavors are sweet with the hop balance being somewhat aggressive with a moderate alcohol element in the taste. It has bread and caramel malt richness in the flavors with floral hops and citrus that in orange like. There are also hints of plums and the alcohol does has a hint of whiskey element in it as well. It has a chewy body with moderately high alcohol warming that is a slight tinge hot, but not unpleasant. It is somewhat dry and the floral hops and dryness linger on the palate. Overall, this is a malt forward barley wine that is moderately hop aggressive as the beer warms.

2013 vintage. Nice maltiness, caramel and clove. Was a bit of medicinal taste on first sip. Pretty rounded as you might expect with a three year old barleywine.

Hazy dark amber, with a thin but lasting head, and spotty lace.
Aroma is malty, caramel, smoke, peat, raisin.
Flavor is sweet and malty up front, lots of caramel and dried fruit, a touch of peat, with some citrusy hops on the finish.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a hazed amber brown with a medium sized tan head. Big sticky malt on the nose, sweet and fruity, a hint of isopropyl. Medium bodied, big and malty, rather sticky fruity malt. Slow malt, sticky and sweet. Big plum and prune notes. Long malt and soft bitterness into the finish, a bit of warming alcohol.

Pours a hazy reddish brown. Aromas of hops, caramel malts, kind of medicinal. Flavor is to strong for me, big alcohol taste, malty with a citrus taste.

Poured from the tap. Dark muddy brown with full beige head. Dominant caramel and sweet malt with a mild pine hop finish. Fairly light body though, slightly watery finish.

Bottle. Clear amber pour. Aroma of fruity malts, Madeira, fruits, nuts, caramel, malty sugars. Flavor is quite sweet, aged malts, smooth and very well balanced. Decent body, subtle carbonation. Nice.
