COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Assertive hoppy & floral west coast style IPA. Pike Space Needle Golden IPA is generously brewed with five varieties of Yakima Valley aroma and flavoring hops. We then dry hop it with whole-cone Columbus, Summit and Centennial hops, which impart a floral aroma that has catapulted this beer to one of Pike Brewing customer’s favorite IPA’s. This beer won a blind tasting competition to be the commemorative beer for the Space Needle’s 50th anniversary in 2012. It was so well received that it has been added to Pike’s year round collection. It was 1962 and the world came to Seattle for the World’s Fair and its futuristic symbol, the Space Needle. The beer served at the ‘62 World’s Fair? Likely nothing at all like this west coast style IPA, generously brewed with five varieties of Yakima Valley aroma and flavoring hops. We then dry hop it with whole-cone Columbus, Summit and Centennial hops, which impart a floral aroma that has catapulted this beer to one of Pike Brewing customer’s favorite IPA’s.
MALT VARIETIES: Munich, Cara-Pils, Malted Wheat
HOP VARIETIES: Chinook, Cascade, Centennial, Columbus, Summit

Had on tap while at the top of the Space Needle. Orange pour with head and lacing. Citrus hop and malt aroma. Taste was a combination of citrus and piney hops. Relatively clean finish, medium body and some carbonation. Having a beer with a view of the city at almost 600 feet is quite the experience.

Pours deep gold with a huge white head. Aroma is spicy pine. Taste is heavy bitter pine up front followed by a light syrup mid palate and a gritty malty bitter finish. If you love bitter IPA’s, you will love this one. Nothing about this beer is timid and amazingly it’s already a year old (2012).

22oz bomber bottle, no best before date, at tasting on 18 November 2012. Thanks to Theydon_Bois for sharing. Mid gold colour. Slight haze. Much as expected from a PNW IPA, but none the worse for that. Pine and resin, backed up by grapefruit in the aroma and flavour. More bitter than the relatively modest IBU count would suggest. Good hoppy stuff.

September 2012. On tap at the Space Needle. Amber color with a large white head. Plenty of hops throughout. Floral aromas with citrus and pine. Bitter finish. Very, very good.

Hazy orange pour. Nose and taste have mellowed due to age. Good beer, justnot as hoppy as I thought it would be. Once again, probably its age.

5/28/13. Bottle from Total Wine. Poured into two glasses - noteworthy because the first glass was a mild amber pour, slightly hazy - the second glass was amber and filled with big, giant floaties - pour carefully on this one. The aroma and flavor show Belgian esters, sweetness, bitter hops, and plenty of citrus. This reminds me of a Belgian golden with some hop characteristics, as opposed to just an IPA.

Golden orange, huge, towering white head. Big fresh grapefruit aroma. Very citrusy flavors and aroma. Some nice, subtle smokey notes, too. . Hints of caramel and honey, too. Nice stuff...

Rich amber coloured body with a bright copper glow and a nice thick three centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of light hops, alcohol, metal and a hint of pine. Medium-bodied; Sharp pungent hop flavour of grapefruit and pine with a bit of malt, some light sugars and some mild metallic notes. Aftertaste shows a good balance of malt and hops with a bit of pungent floral and resinous hop notes and a good sweetness. Overall, a good beer that’s well balanced and nice to try! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Brown Jug in Anchorage (Northern Lights Blvd), Alaska on 22-May-2013 for US$9.99 sampled in my hotel room here in Anchorage, Alaska on 25-May-2013.
