Very dark hazy copper with a light tan head. Earthy caramel with a decent amount of hops backing things up.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma of pumpkin, nutmeg, clove, allspice. Flavor of light roasted malt, sweet pumpkin pie, and pumpkiny spices such as allspice, nutmeg. Plenty of spice character but also plenty of pumpkin.

Bottle at home. Pours clear dark brown with a large, frothy beige head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is toast and cookie malt, dates, earthy spices and vinous notes. Poured from a bottle. Rich amber color short lived off white small head. Sweet fruit and malt smell. A great mixture of malt sweetness, tart and mild alcohol presented in a medium bodied beer.

A little strange, but quite enjoyable. Why this one is listed as a dubbel is not clear to me. I would think it was more of a brown ale, albeit slightly hoppy, and slightly more carbonated than typical.

8/13/2011: Pike Tandem-Double Ale... Aroma: Subtle spice; lightly roasted malts; dates, fig, red plum, dark bread and bread crust. Appearance: Opaque, brown color; lasting, rocky beige-colored head; really nice lacing. Flavor: Slightly smoky; toasted grains with just the right amount of roasted malt; mild sweetness; bread crust and a bit dry in the finis; their description of "baked bread and treacle" is right on the money! Palate: Average. Overall: Very good "double" ale!

Dark garnet pour with little to no head. Aroma is sweet raisins, plums, caramel and grainy malt. Taste medicinal version of the aroma. Ok, had to rerate. This aftertaste killed any chance of a better than average rating.
