More like a sweet porter than a Schwarzbier; chocolaty/raisiny. I was worried because the label said 'Malta,' putting images of non-alcoholic cloying syrup into my head; but this turns out to be beer, and fine beer at that. PorterPounder (8231) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - AUG 2, 2002
Very impresed - sweet, thick, but not syrupy. Appearance - black as night. Thick Creamy head with slight caramel afteraste - great find at the local Pub. Will buy again (once I try everything else!) Aurelius (5502) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - JUN 9, 2003
UPDATED: JUN 23, 2003 This was a really drinkable schwarz. Unexpectedly good. The aroma is rather one-dimensional raisinettes, but it smells delicious. Undeniably sweet, arguably even a little sugary, it doesn't tilt off too far -- in fact the sweetness helps support the roastiness. Good mouthfeel, fades off a little tartly then finishes with coffee. Good beer appearance, slight appearance dings for the twistoff and the squat bottle. Also, I don't know what the ABV is, but it's warming. SpringsLicker (3665) - Tennessee, USA - JAN 16, 2007
Thanks to Beer_Hawk for bringing this one back form Peru to share at the Nashville tasting.
Pours a dark garnet that throws up a fleeting tan head.
Roasty dry aroma. Malt and hops are evident.
The palate is smooth and medium bodied and delivers a malty, well balanced flavor profile.
Quite decent, even if I thought it wasn’t absolutely to style. DocKozzak99 (143) - Tampa, Florida, USA - AUG 11, 2002
Almost passed on this one. It was not toobad though. Better than average. Nice body & authority. Somewhat sweet.

Thanks to Beer_Hawk for sharing this one at the Nashville gathering. An aroma loaded with malt for me. Nothing bad in the nose but nothing overwhelming. A deep mahogany pour with an excellent gooy lacing. A sweetish malt flavor not much bitter but is very smooth and has a lite pleasant bitter. Just a tad fizzy for me but the palate is strong in that it covers the entire mouth evenly. Overall a very good beer. thanks steve arjoseph (642) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - APR 28, 2007
Sampled at a gathering of TN Ratebeerians a couple months ago; thanks to Beer Hawk for bringing this back from Peru and sharing with us. Clear ruby black in the glass. Rocky-ish bubbly head is big and effervescent. Smells like the lager it is, mostly like harvested corn, but with a thin line of strawberry as well. Dark malty fruits in the middle accented by dark grains; sweet. I wrote that it was "schwartzbier-ish" with the malt character, and I guess that was right considering the style. The fruit flavors linger into the finish, where they become akin to jellied fruit candies or fruitcake. Not as creamy as a schwartzbier like Black Bavarian, the palate’s overwhelming characteristic is fizziness, although I didn’t find it distracting given the firm presence of the malt flavors. Marrón rojizo de baja espuma y poco persistente. Aroma a malta caramelo y tostado moderado, lúpulo terroso bajo y ésteres a chocolate y café marcados, ligero diacetilo y ligero DMS. En boca predomina la malta caramelo, lúpulo terroso bajo, con final dulce-tostado sin astringencia. Buena carbonatación, cuerpo moderado a alto. Un poco más dulce de lo que debería ser una Schwarzbier. illinismitty (2271) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - JAN 15, 2007
Thanks to Beer_Hawk for hauling this back from Peru, and saving one for the Nashville Tasting. A beer from Peru? This ought to suck. Pours mahogany with a tan head. So far, this looks like a good beer. Not much of an aroma, just very faint lager notes. Medium light texture. Initial flavor or maple and caramelized sugar, accented but some mild nuttiness and tobacco. Mildy sweet. This sort of tastes like a swarzbier, with a little less European hops and more spritzy on the palate. You know what, this does not suck at all. Vac (2445) - San Diego, California, USA - DEC 26, 2006
Thanks to my bro (beer_hawk) for bringing me this home from Peru. This brew pours with a dark brown to black body topped by a medium thick head with some lacing. It’s slightly sweet and malty with a slight roastiness. A roasty smokey note is very evident in the nose. A little thin and smooth.
