COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pilsner Urquell Nefiltrovaný (unfiltered) is available on the Plzensky Prazdroj tour and at Na Parkanu in Plzen. A limited number of kegs were exported to Sweden and Finland for special events. Though the beer is not kvasnicovy (yeast beer), as there is no wort or young yeast added, it is unpasteurized and unfiltered.
Unfiltered Pilsner is available in selected pubs every october. Note that this is not the same as the more widespread tankovná (tank beer) or the unpasteurized (filtered) version, both of which are found throughout Prague and Czech Republic. all of these other versions should be reviewed under the regular Pilsner Urquell entry. Additionally, the 170 year Anniversary flip-top bottles should be reviewed under the regular Pilsner Urquell entry.

[Unfiltered, unpasteurized, barrel-fermented. From the brewery tour] Very cloudy yellowish/golden color. Nice dense foam on top of my small sample glass. Aroma is FRESH. Fresh yeast, fresh grassy hops. Delicious. The malt character seems to be a bit subdued by all the other complexities of this beer. Yeast character is quite dominant, but not really overpowering (or providing much, if any diacetyl.). Hop character is strong and grassy. Quite bitter. The fermentation within the barrel seems to provide some interesting character to the beer overall... kind of musty and wet. Another layer of complexity. Overall, this beer was one of the highlights of my beer-focused trip abroad. Outstanding, overall. I’ll be lucky if I’m able to try this one again.

Tap - Cloudy golden color with foamy white head. Aroma of grass, hops and malts. Taste has the same things but much smoother way than the normal urquell. Amazing stuff, so tasty!

UPDATED: OCT 14, 2017 Uno spettacolo. Già la normale Urquell raggiunge vette altissime, questa versione complice anche l'effetto amplificativo del luogo in cui viene consumata mi lascia senza parole. Da provare assolutamente durante il tour nei km di cantine sotto la fabbrica.

Old backlog rating, RBESG08, in the cellar during the brewery tour: Cloudy golden, eggshell cream head. Fresh light fruit and hop aroma. Light fruitiness on the palate, herbal and grassy. Light body.

From a cask in the cellars on a brewery tour. Wonderfully blent, rich in flavors, hoppy, close to perfection.

Helder gele kleur met witte schuimkraag. Geur is granig. Smaak start met graan en gaat over in bitterheid, wat niet mijn ding is.

On cask @ brewery, as well as @ Na Parkánu, Plzen. Pours hazy yellow, with a big creamy head. Aroma is malty notes of bread and caramels. Medium to creamy body, with soft carbonation. Flavour is zesty saaz hops and malts with bread, caramel and toffee. Lingering hoppy finish. Mellow, balanced and quaffable.

UPDATED: JUL 26, 2017 From a barrel@Prazdroj brewery. Cloudy golden, creamy head. Although lacking direct comparison with the filtered version, I would think that the main differences are a slightly more yeasty aroma and a tad sweeter taste. I don’t quite share the hype about this rarity and rate it lower than a good quality ’tank’ version.

DØE. Hazy golden with a big white head. Aroma is sweet, malty and moderate hoppy - grass. Flavor is medium sweet and moderate bitter. Sweet and moderate bitter finish. 190517
