It is called the "model of meter" among beers. All other pilsners are a better or worse attempt to copy the original - the first ever Pilsner Urquell. Its unparalleled exceptionality is guaranteed by the same recipe dating from 1842.

Blond color, with medium sized head. Very nice malt aroma. Very solid malt flavor, like a rock, with a good level of bitterness, complete and balanced, with a good degree of sweetness. It lacks the fresh fascination and hop of some Helles, but it’s a master of clean and fat malts.

Very nice hop and malt aroma, rare for any other big brewer, honeyish. Good bitter body and strong, quite aromatic final.

Tap at the Rose and Thistle, Frimley Green - 05/01/13. Clear mid golden with a thin white head. Nose is subdued, light pale malt, a little caramel and grass. Taste is malt forward, caramel, touch buttery but not in a nasty diacetyl way, light fruit, hint of vanilla. Medium bodied with spritzy carbonation, bitter dry finish. Memories fade perhaps but this isn’t the beer it was when I first tried it in Praha some 11 or so years ago! Drinkable however and still a far superior option to most keg tap commercial drivel.

UPDATED: JAN 28, 2012 Bottle. Golden color and very lively carbonation. Medium head with medium duration. Aroma is dominated by hops and maybe a little fruit. Taste is mostly hops and bit too bitter for my taste. Rerated @ fonefan tasting. Medium head with medium duration. Color is golden. Aroma and taste are malt, hops and notes of butter.

UPDATED: JUL 9, 2008 330ml bottle from Unwins. Pale gold with white bubbly head. Along with Budvar, one of my favourites. Nice pilsner citric hop. OK in mouth with satisfying hop citric finish. More flavour than most lagers too.. Re-rate Draught at blind tasting at Modry Abbe. Pretty looking beer, clear gold, thick cream head. Excellent carbonation. NO huge aroma, some hop on finish. No bad or off flavours, nothing to make it unattractive. It’s fine. Even some drinkability.

Ok, so it's very seldom fresh at all in North America. I just remember a few years ago in Halifax when I had some straight off the boat. That's where these high marks come from. When fresh, this is a first-rate pilsner. When not fresh, well, it's like any other beer that isn't fresh. Usually on this side of the ocean you'll want to get it on tap or from the can, to avoid skunkage.

UPDATED: SEP 16, 2005 Dark golden color with a nice head. This is a really good beer, but im not surprised since it is czech. It has a fresh and clean taste with a nice bitter finish.

chrisv10 (18737) - DENMARK - SEP 9, 2009
UPDATED: JAN 28, 2012 50 cl can. Clear golden with small white head. Aroma is malt, straw, little bitter and hops. Flavour is malt, hops, little citrus, little butter, little sweet and a little bitter.

Very fresh hoppy aroma. Quite big white head. Appearance very clear, golden. Bitterness which has some bite - but not too heavily plus grass flavour which stays long enough to make drinking enjoyable. (9/3/8/4/15 3.9)
Re-rate: bottled (BB 01/2005)
Dark golden color with steady white head, lace. Strong hoppy aroma - like it should be. Hops dominate mouthfeel, some sugary notes too. Bitter hoppy aftertaste. Classic benchmark of the style. (7/3/7/5/15 3.7)

Pours a light gold color in the glass. Nose and taste are a little floral, lots of peppers and spice. Rated 1/13/2000
