Poured into a pint glass. Dark, opaque brown color with minimal head. It smells like walnuts, if only faintly. A little candy smell comes through too. Wow. It tastes exactly like root beer for the first 2 seconds. Then the flavor "waters" out a bit. Some dry bitterness at the end. Smooth texture, medium body and moderate carbonation. If nothing else it is interesting with the walnuts and the taste of root beer.

UPDATED: DEC 30, 2017 Only editing to say that I have tried about eight different beers from this brewery. This is their standout. Float Trip is also alright - just alright. Everything else is very much regrettable. The review below is very kind, considering this would be a bottom choice for beer drinking in any situation. Yet, I've had it multiple times, but may not ever again. Okay I hinted at that below, so I'll make it official that this brewery is on my block list. In other words Ill never drink another beer from this brewery again. This goes for $2 Float Trip pints that I might encounter. 12floz can, no date, $1/75 unit cost, nonic glass. This is a dunklewiezen based beer. It's hazy brown with a a head that sets to a ring for an appearance (not pretty). Black walnut exhibits much character in the nose and in the palate. Decent forage, woodsy, taste - bark/tree limbs/moss/dirt. A good mainstream-ish/production brewery approach to going native in brewing. I'll give credit and bonus review points there, in reality it's just pretty decent/alright/okay. I'll likely have this again if they keep making it, but will with less frequency than in the past. The past being about 20 times in the last five-ish years

Canned Jan 11, 2017. Pours a dark brown, mostly clear with subtle aromas. Little head and lacing. Malts, bread, nutty forward. Smooth, easy drinking. Finishes a bit dry, little carbonation but not flat by any means. Subtle in every way, not in a bad way. Good offering - Prost!

Pours deep brown with a soapy tan head. The aroma has rich nuttiness, toasted wheat, some bananas and phenolic spice. It has a medium smooth body with mild sharp carbonation. The flavor starts with very smooth wheat, nuttiness from the walnuts, minerals and spice. The finish has some vanilla creaminess and more spices. Pretty good.
