3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Dark pour. Black as your hat (thanks Muck) with a sliver of light khaki head. Enormouse rye aroma with subtle earthy hop undertones. Tastes predominately grainy....a lot o’ rye, some smoke, grass, maybe leather. Just a flutter of bitterness on the back end. Bizarre for an IPA. A hit of sweetness would have rounded this guy out nicely. Props for style.
Pour is a dark black with a small tan head. Aroma is a really nice mix of piney hops and a roasted malt. I could smell the beer as I was pouring it out of the can. Flavor is again decently hoppy and roasted malt. Not as strong as the aroma let on but both are there fighting it out on your palate. Black IPA’S are not really my thing but this had an equally nice hop to roasted malt ratio that was quite flavorful. Ratman197 (14976) - Arvada, Colorado, USA - OCT 23, 2015

Flavors of rye, cocoa, roasted malt, pine and earthiness with a smooth dry bitter lingering roasty finish. hayduke (5550) - Eureka, California, USA - SEP 28, 2015
Sampled at GABF. In the glass this was dark red with a small beige colored head. Nose of roasted chocolate malts, some fruit, and citrus. Medium in body. The flavor shows a lot of dark malts but is well balanced with the citrus and fruit. Long bitter rye finish. Good. Strykzone (7430) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - SEP 24, 2015

Can @ home. Very dark cola colored beer with off-white foam. Nose is pretty decent. A lot of grass and pine. Slight lemon peel, grapefruit, and orange rind. Roasted malt and a bit of caramel. Flavor is less hop forward and has more of a bitter coffee and roasted malt character. Some decent herbs and pine. Mild citrus. Slight malt sweetness. decaturstevo (6257) - decatur, Tennessee, USA - SEP 23, 2014
