I am going to strongly disagree with my esteemed colleague Cantabrian. I fell base over apex for this beer as I have with so many other Pink Elephants. It appears as black as sin with a coffee coloured head. It really looks like engine oil when you pour it. Coffee is a bit of a theme as it follows in the aroma with dark chocolate straight from the Whittaker’s factory. I found the aroma to be perfumy and lovely. In the mouth it was fluffy and desserty with some savoury elements. There was plentiful sweet chocolate and cocoa. The coffee in the flavour became bitter and caused the flavours to linger to a dusty cocoa finish.
I disagree with my friend Cantabrian in that I found this to be a very elegant beer that I would be happy to drink a hundred of (which I will if I get the chance).

Oil black poor with minimal mocha head. Thick espresso aroma. It’s the mellowness in the flavour that is surprising eseecially after the aroma promises a blast of coffe the actual taste is subtle and lingering. There is a molasses aspect as well that adds to the thickend feel of this brew.
Brew warming some plumb and molasses comes through. A sweeter deeper beer than at first. Great long lasting beverage.

Bottle. Almost black color, brown head. Aroma of rich espresso, dark chocolate. Taste has bitter cocoa, coffee, dates, figs. Good mouthfeel. Tasty.

This is a fantastic beer, a lovely rich taste with lots of balanced roast. Good thick consistency and prickly carbonation. I really like this.

UPDATED: DEC 24, 2013 An imposingly rich black beer that would be superb with strong cheese, meat or desert. Have upped my rating after subsequent tastes have confirmed that this is a superb beer.

2013 bottling 6.75% Alc. Looks impressive on the pour - dark and brooding with a generous tan head. Generous coffee on the nose. Not overly heavy on the palate, but it just lingers and lingers and says, "Remember me? I’m still here." Another great beer from Mr Pink.

The beer is dark brown, as thick black coffee, with a formidable shiny coper-coloured head, which disappears just too quickly. Strong aroma of coffee, strong flavour of coffee. With a thin palate, it gets friendlier (less coffee) as it warms in the glass, with a bit of the whisky coming up in the alcohol, some molasses and peaty smokiness, but it does need some more sweeter chocolate notes for a bit of balance. I ’m glad it is not as herbal as I feared, but it could be overall more complex. And it’s a porter, not an "english strong ale."

delicious. has coffee flavours and nuttiness in abundance, and is very richly sweet. could drink many pints of this, but slowly and with savour.
