From a bottle, pours a medium amber with a healthy white head. It seemed ever so slightly cloudy when held up to the light. Darker color than the usual mainstream lager. The head sticks around until the glass is drained. Not a hefty beer but quite tasty, with more bitter overtones than I would have expected (especially from the brewer’s description). Goes down very easily--great beer for introducing someone to the "craft beer" scene. buckybeer (666) - Eau Claire, Wisconsin, USA - AUG 9, 2006
Better than I thought it would be. Pours a medium amber with a small head. Aroma is light malt and very light hops. Taste seems a tad watered down but is still pretty good. Light malts and hops. philbertk (1873) - Seattle, Washington, USA - APR 28, 2010
Pioneer Lager--2000 12 oz. Bottle. 5.40% ABV. 18 IBU’s. (3.5 / 5.0) Amber Lager. Clear rich amber color. Light hop front followed by rich malty body with lightly toasted fruit flavors. Dry sweetness. Incomplete lager smoothness. Tight chalkiness in end with light citrus note. Sampled 8/17/2000. badgerben (5325) - Blaine, Minnesota, USA - MAR 13, 2009
Courtesy of Skyview. Very murky brown/orange color with a quickly collapsing large head. Fairly heavy floral and citrus hops for a pale lager. Those fade in the flavor a lot. Mostly grains and caramel. Ughsmash (7510) - Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA - JUN 18, 2007
Bottled. Poured clear orangey-golden with a tall, rocky cap of white head. Aroma was of sweet bready malts with dusty floral and sweet grains... quite pleasant. Flavor almost held serve, but picked up a soapy component.. sweet bready base with sufficient floral bitterness. Lighter-bodied, but never struck me as watery.. crisp and refreshing. Nice one.

Dark golden color with a moderate off white head. Malt and mild floral hops aromas. A real older style lager. Rich malt base that simply says, this is beer. This was the type of beer that was on tap across the US 50 years ago. Straight forward brew. TerryR (391) - Oswego, Illinois, USA - DEC 12, 2006
Orange/amber color with a nice off white head. Bread and sweet malt aroma. Sweet malt flavor with a very smooth finish. A solid effort. hogan873 (451) - Joliet, Illinois, USA - OCT 30, 2006
I was impressed by this beer. The bottle did not scream try me, but I figured why not. Pours a dark orange with an off-white head. There’s a hint of coffee in the aroma, but that’s about it. The taste was above average. Bold up front with a smooth finish. A touch of citrus? doubelknv3 (1093) - Illinois, USA - MAY 19, 2007
Golden-amber with thin head. Graniy aroma. Balanced with mild sweet fruity malts and faint hops. Smooth, refreshing, & dry. PattyBoy (302) - North Liberty, Iowa, USA - JUL 18, 2007
Pours deep copper. Aroma is malt & bread. More hops than I thought there would be. Better than expected.
