Draft at FoBAB. Pours a deep brown, near black with a wispy tan head. The nose has roast, sweetness, toast. Light tart note in the background. Firm barrel presence, vanilla and cocoa. On tasting, a bit boozy and sweet. Moderate heat notes. Oaky overall and okay. A bit thin bodied, the beer doesn’t fully support the barrel, IMO.
Sampled at FoBAB2012. Rating from notes. Pours a inky black pour with a slight brown head. Aroma of bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, lots of booze. Lactose, milk chocolate, some wood and smokiness. Flavor is mostly lactose sugar and vanilla sweetness with booze notes enveloped by chocolate, roast bitterness. Some barrel. FOBAB ’12. Pours a black body with a thin, creamy, brown head that dissipates quickly and leaves a moderate lacing. Aroma is fairly sweet with a good amount of woody bourbon that has a nice lactose sweetness coming through as well as a good amount of dark fruits. The vanilla and cocoa nibs still show up, but they are definitely cut by the barrel aging. Flavor is similar. A good amount of bourbon and wood up front with some caramel, chocolate, lactose, and dark fruits. Cocoa nibs come out a bit more on the flavor with a lighter vanilla. Finishes mostly dry and woody with some roasts, bourbon, wood, and a malty sweetness. Lengthy aftertaste following a medium body and a light carbonation. Overall, I wasn’t as big a fan of this as the original, but it was still decent. A bit thinned from the barrel aging and the cocoa nibs and vanilla aren’t as distinct because of it, but there’s still a nice lactose sweetness, roast, dark fruit, and chocolate element. Sample FOBAB ’12 - Friend brought this one over and said it was pretty good, so gave it a whirl - not planning to otherwise. Pours dark brown with thin head. Aroma is roasted malts, some toffee notes, bit of dark fruit in the background. Flavor is similarly roasty, cocoa, lactic notes, booze and a hint of vanilla - not half bad. Palate is nice and smooth and easy drinking, with some residual heat from the bourbon that doesn’t overpower...

Pours basically a black color with a small head and some lacing on the glass.
The aroma is sweet and roasty, lots of coffee and raisin character with a rich molasses-y bit to it too.
The flavor is raisin and dark fruit forward, sweet and lightly tart. Very roasty but not crazy sweet, the roastiness is akin to coffee and the barrel character is well nuanced and not overbearing in the least.
Sampled at FoBAB 10 - 2012 (Chicago, IL). Pours a rich brownish ruby pour, good haze, wit a frothy tannish head. Laces ok. Aromas are gentle cocoa, roast, and toffee. Gentle coffee, oak, vanilla. Initial is coffee, medium bodied, touches of toffee, toast, lactic sweetness. Coffee, gentle oak, Koval spirit, and gentle heat into the middle. Backend shows spirit, coffee, Koval. Richer coffee, toast, some mocha kisses. Finish is a gentle roasty quality, caramel, and toasty. Toffee, toast. Solid. FoBAB 2012: Deep murky brown with a frothy head. The aroma has notes of roast, bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, slight char and lactic acid with a hint of grassy hop and coffee. The taste is twangy with a green apple note followed by heavy roasted and toasted malts, Chocolate and Vanilla overtones as well. Charred oak and moderate bourbon influences before a slight coffeeish bitter finish. The mouth feel is lively and crisp. Very similiar in body to the original. It took on the bourbon decently but I would have liked more form the bourbon.
