Draft at FoBAB. Some issues here. Pours near black with a tan head. Nose is odd. Bandaids, solventy, faint cherry notes from the brett. Cocoa and smoke behind the band-aids. On tasting, still has that phenolic quality along with the smoke. The cherries come through as well, faint tartness and cocoa. More of the cherrywood smoke which is a fickle bitch. Not a fan of this one at all.
Sampled at FoBAB2012. Inky black pour with a tan head. Aroma of green apples, band aid, smoke, other weird stuff. Mild bourbon, some chocolate behind all the weirdness. Flavor is mostly solvent, nail polish, green apples and smoke. Touches of band aids, funk, chocolate, roasted malts. Slick bodied. FOBAB ’12. Black with a beige head. Some tart aroma a little bandaid. Not really sour. Thin smoky. Kinda odd. It’s an odd one off.

FOBAB ’12. Pours a black body with a finger-width, creamy, brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma still has a good amount of smoke and chocolate with a bunch of wood. Just a slight cherry tartness and roast. Flavor is similar. Lots of smoke and some phenols with a good amount of wood, a light chocolate sweetness, and touch of cherry. Finishes dry and woody with a distinct whiskey, light roast, and light sweetness. Lengthy aftertaste following a thinner feeling body and a moderate carbonation. Overall, I didn’t dislike this, but I wasn’t a huge fan of it. Sample FOBAB ’12 - Friend told me to try this one, and it wasn’t the standard ’this is awesome, you need to go get a pour of this now’ story...Rating is short due to a small sample, but enough to get the feel for this one - pour appeared black - no head to speak of...aroma is odd and not particularly good - general musty/sour feel to it - some sweetness, some smoke, just odd... Agree with some others that this one just seemed off - and more than just the sour/smoke combo not working - medicinal feel is in there along with the smoke, sour/tart/green apple thing...just not particularly good. Palate ok.

Sampled at FoBAB 10 - 2012 (Chicago, IL). Pours a richer deep blackish pour, good haze, small loose offwhite head dies to a film. Aromas are sour cherries, smoke, oak, and toffee. Red fruit and meat, oak, a potent feel. Initial is thinner light body, with oak, touches of iodine, meat, and barrel. Gentle smoke, earthy seaweed, smoke, and meat. Gentle cherry, thinner. Middle is a bit smokey, roasty, and gentle sourness. Backend is a bit medicinal, oak, and some lingering bandaid feel. An odd beer from Pipeworks. Not necessarily something they should abandon, but something they should play with some more. They mentioned they blended back some beer into this one.. would have liked to try it straight. FoBAB 2012: Deep murky brown with a slight frothy head. The aroma has notes of smoked malt, walnuts, grassy and herbal hop, moderate oak and ever so slightly sour cherry character with no funk or lactic tones. The taste is nutty and smoky with some tannic oak dryness. Grainy and earthy as well with some sour dark fruit notes here and there. The mouth feel is smooth and ashy. Sampled from the tap at FOBAB 2012. Pours near clear brown with a creamy brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of campfire smoke with roasted malts and just a hint of sour fruit. Smokey and boozy, the sourness had not taken hold yet. It needed more age when I tried it.
