Inspired by the Puerto Rican dessert, nisperos de batata, this Imperial porter is crafted with the dishes core ingredients: sweet potatoes, cinnamon, clove, vanilla, and toasted coconut, and is an equatorial delight. Pipeworks is proud of our roots in Humboldt Park, grateful to neighbors like Junior of Puerto Rican Food Mart for their support. And also, we like desert.

Sample from batch #219-220 at Kurtkeller 004: Pipeworks-tastic 01 on 01/18/2014. Deep dark brown color with a medium tan head that recedes steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of cloves, malt and grain. Medium to full body with flavors of sweet spices, yams and malt. The finish is sweet with a spice and grainy malt aftertaste. Decent overall.

Great beer. Nose of cinnamon and vanilla. Taste is subtle cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla. Almost no coconut as described on the bottle. Mouthfeel is great for a porter. Overall a really well done beer for what they were going for. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle poured into a shaker. Pours black with a thin ring of khaki head. Aroma of chocolate, brown sugar and loads of baking spices. Taste is mostly baking spices with dark chocolate and something a little sweet. Full bodied with a creamy texture. Lively carbonation. And a super long finish. Overall, awesome. Another pipeworks winner.

VertBaconStrips (2395) - Blerkablerka, VENEZUELA - JAN 4, 2014
Smells totally foul - cinnamon, coconut, funky toffee something. This is hard to continue to smell. Yucko. Cinnamon and chewy goop, coconut, licorice, light sour, something green, total mistake having this.

gramity (1678) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - JAN 4, 2014
Pours a deep murky brown, near opaque with a rocky fading head. The aroma has moderate vapours of cinnamon, clove and vanilla bean along with some toasted bread. Smell like a liquid dinner. Hint of smoke and earthiness as well on the nose. The taste is more of the same with pronounced spices and root to earth backbone.

Ferris (16268) - Burnaby, British Columbia, CANADA - JAN 4, 2014
Bottle - Chocolate, roasted malts, clove and other spices. Jet black with a thin brown head. Sweet molasses, clove and cinnamon. A bit too spicy and unbalanced.

AdamChandler (5150) - Enfield, New Hampshire, USA - JAN 1, 2014

madvike (3285) - Middleton, Wisconsin, USA - DEC 16, 2013
Bottle - Pours dark brown with a ring of light tan head. Nose has clove and cinnamon, with a little vanilla and a sweet malt base. Taste is sweet potato, spicy clove and cinnamon, with dark malt and very light roast. Thin body and lightly carbonated. Weird beer.

drsordr (2794) - Loveland, Ohio, USA - DEC 11, 2013
Bottle pours opaque black/ brown with tan head. Nose sweet malt, sweet potato, brown sugar, faint roast. Taste sweet up front, then yam, roast chocolate. Underlying hint of coconut. Bitter roasty finish. Smooth mouth feel.
