Poured from the bomber, cloudy brown with about two fingers of a white collar. Sweet, caramel, gritty, a little dry, didn’t really taste the hops over the sweet, but plenty of warm without being boozy, always looking for a good strong brown ale, and this is definitely that. If I had any suggestions they would be a few more stiff hops to offset the sweet, and knock a buck or two off the price. Otherwise all good. hopscotch (11236) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - FEB 26, 2015
Bottle... Pours clear and dark mahogany with a large, off-white head. Flimsy retention, but it lasts a surprisingly long time, and leaves loads of intricate lacing behind. Full-bodied with airy carbonation. The flavor forces a huge, roasty, unnecessary amount of bitterness upon me. Finishes burnt and acutely bitter. Bottle from a trade with jingledell. Pours dark brown color with ruby highlights and a tan head. aromas of citrus, pine, toasted malts and chocolate, Very hoppy citrus and pine flavors with toasted malts and slight chocolate and caramel sweetness. A: A light colored brown ale, more of a real dark red. Brilliantly clear. Nice thin bubbly white head that doesn’t linger too much. Great lacing
S: Really interesting and unique aroma, smells of some grapefruit and earthyness, grape with faint cherry/raspberry with a smell of a chocolate covered strawberry. Some roast and plastic as well.
T: Nice bitterness upfront then fades with a grape, chocolate roast, with faint cherry and plastic like qualities, and earthy. which fits the profile nicely. Alcohol noticeable.
M: For a brown ale not overly sweet, nice and crisp. Alcohol burn on the tongue.
O: Nice change of pace from the DIPA’s, and interesting take on a brown ale. jtclockwork (17264) - , New Jersey, USA - FEB 16, 2014
Bottle. Pours brown with tan head. Nose and taste of toffee malt, caramel, grapefruit, coffee, resin and citrus. Finishes with a touch of toast and pine resin. Very hoppy for the style. Works pretty well. Medium body. jstraw (1967) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - DEC 21, 2013
Bottle at Jerry’s. Clear brown with good, frothy beige head, decent lacing / Nose of roast grain, chocolate, pine, citrus / Medium to full body, biting hops, some sweetness, good balance with lots of bitterness on finish / Flavors of chocolate, caramel, pine, weed, grapefruit, orange rind / Excellent flavor profile, very double ipa like with big hop bite. Pours amber brown with a decent beige head. Aroma is juicy, unique orange like Nelson hop notes. After that though, I realize that this blend is not my style unfortunately, I really wanted to like it. The flavor brings big root flavors with biting raw Nelson not settling well on my palate.
