COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Belgian Strong Dark Ale brewed with Nelson Sauvin Hops and Klug Farms Black Raspberries. Nelson Sauvin hops, Belgian yeast, and black Raspberries?! What’s this abbot (about)? Brother Razbeardo may be razz’n you, but he’s not kidding around; this ale is a slam monk (dunk). The juicy hop aroma will entrappe (entrap) you, while the tart black raspberries and warm, spicy yeast character will make you speechless. Brother’s brewed a real zen outta zen (?). Better pour this one on the dubbel (double)!

Shared 750 ml. bottle poured to snifters, showing a reddish tinged, almost opaque, black/brown color, with a reddish brown, deep tan froth to the head, and nice cling to the dots & dashes of lacing. The aroma was smooth malt, with hints of toast & chocolate, light spice, attentive alcohol, and dark raspberry jam that was sweet & fruity, but possessed more of an artificial, pectin-like scent to me. Medium bodied, with soft carbonation, the taste was somewhat similar to the nose, with some subtle creaminess to mellow the mouthfeel, and alcohol that remained, for the most part, behind the scenes. Fairly tasty, though.

Bottle from Liquor Barn on sale $6.99. Delicious aromas of spices, plum, blueberries and Belgian sugar . Dark brown and reddish color. Deep intense flavors of dark fruits, caramelized figs and raisins. Toffee, caramel, fermented berries. Lots of things going on with this beer.

Opaque purple - black beer, small purple head! Smooth palate with fine nibbly carbonation. Semi dry. Mellow blackcurrant with touches of blackberry and raspberry. Touch of spicy yeast. Light finish. Pleasant enough but not sure what Pipeworks were aiming for here.

Honestly this is funky but I sort of love it. It’s like a weird fruit beer with a bitter hop nose. Pours super dark and black like juice. Hop nose. A raspberry flavor but not over sweet. Taste of alcohol hits hard.

Draft on tap at Polar Beer Fest 2014 (Chicago, IL). Pours adeep luscious raspberry juice hue, crimson glow on the edges with a good haze in the body. A frothy reddish tinged head sits atop, sticks around, laces ok. Really nice color. Aromas are seedy raspberry and some bready malts, a touch of spice, fruit and biscuit. More raspberry pulp, gentle yeast and sweetness. Initial is a good dose of raspberry juice, a bit fuzzy and tannic, the ellement isn’t just sweetness. Touches of biscuit, toast, and vanilla, some fruity elements start to play as we hit the middle. Some peach, gentle dryness as we hit the backend. More raspberry, tannic skin, with some spice, yeast elements. Overall, I think the raspberry certainly sets the pace here. A touch sweet at times, but quite genuine for the most part, juicy and flavorful overall. The Belgian yeast gets covered up a bit, touches of candi sugars and fruit linger or strike a certain note at times. Solid fruit beer. Looks great.
