650ml bottle from Leo's in Woodridge. No bottle date, and the label has a @2015 note on it. Nonetheless, excited to try a Manhattan-inspired ale, as it is similar enough to an Old Fashioned, long a favorite. Brown pour, murky, with a beige colored head leaving a consistent rim. Aroma has muddled cherries and lemon and sweet malts, and whiskey, with an herbal presence similar to bitters. Sweet nose, a bit surprisingly. Taste is of sweet and tangy herbs and whiskey, with some fruits, certainly lemon. Herbal and spicy. Muddled. More than medium bodied, there is some alcohol presence, and the blend is ok, but no better. Finishes sweetly, with a bit of lemony citrus at the end. Concept was interesting, but the execution did not match. 13.2

From notes. Enjoyed at a tasting at Corbet’s house on December 21. 22 oz bottle. The pour is a thick looking dark brown with a small egg shell colored head and a couple spots of lace as it falls to a ring. The aroma is really sweet. There is a lot of dark fruit, light caramel, char, and spicy sugar. This thing is all over the place. There is a light fruitiness that isn’t terrible, but it’s interesting. The flavor is much of the same. Lots of charred malts up front, light cherry and dark fruit, a sweet caramel, and light sugariness on the finish. The mouth feel is thin and watery with a sharper carbonation and a lingeringly sweet charred dark fruit that lasts for way too long. Hmm. This wasn’t awful, but it’s not for me.

Sampled during RBWG Tampa 2015. Deep brown pour with a small off-white head. Nose is fairly spicy. Peppery. Some earthy charred grain. Dark chocolate. Flavor is a bit more supple and sweet. Toasted grain, nutty. Some pain au chocolate. Somewhat oily. Smooth.

22 oz bottle shared with the group. Pours a clear dark amber brown color with a thin, creamy beige head. The aroma and flavor have sweet malts, caramel, dark cherries, a small orange tang, herbal bitters, sweet, some cider like character, I like the creativity but wouldn’t want to drink a bunch of this.

Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured reddish brown color with an average frothy tan head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate dark cherry and sweet toasted malt aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy dark cherry sweet flavor with a medium to heavy cherry sweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a solid beer.

Tulip. Very dark brown, almost ruby with a thin beige head that leaves little to no lacing. Aroma is cherries, oak, and sweet vermouth. Flavor is sweet cherry up front. Rye whiskey, vermouth, and bitters are definitely there as well. The cherry flavor turns more sour and it actually resembles a manhattan quite well. Alcohol is surprisingly undetectable as well. On point for what they are trying to do.

Pour is close to black with some slight red tints. Small tan head. Aroma and flavor of aromatic bitters, tart cherry, light cocoa, and spice. Finish is heavier on the tart cherry, spice, and bitters. Alcohol is hidden very well. Strange, but it works.
