22 oz bottle from De Bierkoning, batch 57. Pitch black color. Beige/mocha colored head, sticky, but uneven. Aroma’s: pine/resin at first with dark chocolate, roasted malts, ground coffee. Pine diminishes a bit and there’s molasses retronasal as well. Flavor is bitter, acidic, roasted, chocolate. Body is going towards medium, actually a bit on the thin side. Finishes with hard roasted malts and a long lasting bitterness. jkwood04 (5477) - Connecticut, USA - JUN 11, 2013
22oz bottle in a tulip. Pours black with a lacy, tan head. Aroma of roasted and dark malts plus a good amount of citrusy and floral hops. Flavor the same, with a nice blend of the malts and hops in a way that each adds to each other rather than combining to taste like soap (crappy black IPAs, you know who you are...). Average texture. A pretty good black IPA or hoppy double stout imperial beer thing ale. TheHOFF43 (2052) - Robbinsdale, Minnesota, USA - JUN 7, 2013
Bottle. Pours black with a tan head, lots of chocolate on the aroma. Hops on the tongue, kinda drunk when I tried this I think. GT (10001) - San Diego, California, USA - JUN 5, 2013
651mL from Binny’s on Grand in Chicago. GET IT AT BINNY’S!! Pours full ink with billowing, rocky mocha foam. Great Black IPA hop resin retention. Sheets of complete 360 lacing. Nose is gamey coffee, black crayon, waxy to near plastic note. Palate is chalky, gritty in texture. Flavors of licorice, dark chocolate, and dusty black cocoa dance around. Powerful bitter chocolate all around. Really fantastic save for the overly dusty, sandy palate. Awesome. Tortman18 (174) - Batavia, Illinois, USA - JUN 4, 2013
My fiance, biggirlpanties, the Black IPA Queen had this to say: a little papery in finish, perhaps heat damage from our car ride. Nice roasted coffee bean aroma. Maybe some toffee. 3.7
UPDATED: APR 13, 2014 Pours a pitch black with a half finger of bubbly head that lingers. Almost no carbonation...that is visible. Decent lacing. Nose is very roasty and boozy witg Malt, coffee, Dark chocalate and vanilla. Mouth is also incredibly roasty. There is a decent alcohol bite, but it’s masked perfectly. A great hop bite, but despite its presence, this is not a black IPA. All stout here.

22oz bomber. Big minty chocolate aroma, big specialty malt. Thick, sugary mouthfeel. Steady green citrus, piny hops. Rich chocolate tones, a touch minty. Roasty coffee, oily big flavors. Nice offering. umich03jm (3512) - Flat Rock, Michigan, USA - MAY 23, 2013
Bomber from trade with dfonorow. Thanks! Awesome appearance. Pours pitch black with a big foamy head that fades normally and leaves some oily webbing. Huge aroma of roasted malt, dark chocolate, tobacco, orange and pine. Taste is very roasty, chocolaty and hoppy all at once. Intense bitterness somehow balances with the deep roast and dark chocolate. Tobacco, citrus, and pine all show up in the long finish. Thick and oily mouthfeel with a slight chalkiness too. Overall, this is great stuff. I really love a good Black IPA and this is right up there with my favorites. jbeatty (1267) - New York, USA - MAY 13, 2013
Bottle, batch 23, 05/13/2013. Pours black with a big, dense, light tan head, lacing left behind as the head fades a bit. Aroma is dark chocolate and roasted malts, coffee bitterness, with resinous orange, pine hops dominating towards the finish, bright and fruity. Taste has pleasant, citrus caramel hops up front, piney edge, smooth chocolate and roasted malts serve to accentuate, long bitter finish, bit of coffee. Full, nearly creamy body, not overly sticky. Pretty nice, good balance here. fattybladdy (830) - Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA - MAY 11, 2013
Deuce, batch #23. Pours a solid black with a tall dark brown head. Aroma is chocolate and boozey. Taste is bitter roasted coffee, dark chocolate, piney, earthy hops, lots of bitterness. Really well executed mix between a strong stout and some massive hops. vyvvy (6959) - St. Louis, Missouri, USA - MAR 30, 2013
Sampled at 4 Hand’s Lupulin Fest 2013 - Pours black with a tan head. The aroma has roasty malt, coffee, dark caramel, cream and earthy hops. It has a medium / full body with semi-sharp carbonation. The flavor starts with very roasty malt, smooth cocoa and earthy / spicy hops. The finish has earthiness, coffee and resin. Quite nice.
