3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bomber from cjacobsen on BA - thanks, Chris! Have to say that for my first (I think) Pipeworks I was hoping for a bit more. Slightly under-carbonated pour, like iced tea or apple juice. Nose was very strongly soapy, with loads of sweet and vaguely artificial fruit obscuring most of the hops. Body was reasonable full, palate a bit waxy. The flavors continued to disappoint, though, as there was relatively little in the way of a hop profile or yeast complexity. Strange, possibility even an off bottle.
A nice IPA, the Belgian yeast definitely come through in this one. Nose is the typical citrus hops of Chicago with a Belgian ending. Flavor is Belgian yeast and hops with a building bitterness and lasting creamy yeastiness. That said... the typical offerings are better in my opinion but a solid representation of the style. scarletfire65 (1534) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - OCT 8, 2016
Draft at First Draft in Chicago. Grassy, citrus, yeasty, dank hops, skunky weed aroma. Bone dry palate, funky warm yeast, pilsnerish grassy hops - maybe Mosaic. Crisp, dry, bitter, herbal finish with some spicy clove showing up in the far finish. Outstanding. GevDie (7) - Brooklyn, New York, USA - MAY 27, 2016 does not count
Pours slightly cloudy and straw colored. Floral with a nice spiced finish. Really nice IPA. beer-yum (1954) - Wellington, NEW ZEALAND - APR 26, 2016
Restrained aroma in a straw pour. Similarly restrained flavor profile. Mildly hop forward but with a light Belgian fruit body and crisp clean finish. Manages to totally hide its strength - which makes it dangerously delicious. markducommun (1231) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - APR 30, 2015
Light golden yellow, very clear. Black liquorice, melon, molasses. Light pine. Good bit of sweetness. Oily, medium body. Not much carbonation. Long finish. Good.

Bottle thanks to neighbor Larry. Pour is light in color and flavor. Sharp floral and citrus. Pretty good. Glouglouburp (6103) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - DEC 3, 2013
In short: A very sweet, quite spicy and generously fruity-hoppy golden Belgian Ale. Chaotic beer of low drinkability. Fail.alexsdad06 (11238) - West Chester, Ohio, USA - DEC 2, 2013
How: Bottle 22oz, consumed when around 2 or 3 months of age. Bottle from cetherid, thanks Chris.
The look: Cloudy bright golden body topped by a medium white head leaving lots of lacings on the glass.
In long: Nose is musky, spicy, hoppy, cantaloupes, citrus fruits. Intriguing but not necessarily inviting aroma. In mouth the beer feels thick but the lively carbonation makes for a decent mouthfeel. Taste didn’t win me over. High sweetness sensation surprises and seems to come out of nowhere and isn’t accompanied by the richness I want from a sweet beer. Spiciness is a bit too much for its own good. Sweet peach juice, cantaloupes, and sweet apricots juice swimming in ginger and other spices. Strong Belgian yeast presence. Very hoppy but the hopping is not harmonious with the rest of the beer. This is a class of a bunch of stuff, total chaos, a bomber that was hard to finish. The mix of flavors spices, sweetness and hops bitterness in this beer go together like hot sunny days, leather car seats and nudism.
22 oz bottle shared by b3shine. Pours a slightly hazy dark golden color with a medium sized white head. The aroma and flavor have a good fruit character, Belgian yeast, spicy notes including white pepper, some sweet mal, mild bi tterness to the finish. This is nice enough, but lower the abv a bit, keep the flavor and can it and I would be all in. BluePhish (95) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - NOV 7, 2013
Lighter than expected lots of toasty malt finishes with the lactic mouthfeel not bad not great

Bottle poured into a shaker. Pours a hazy light orange with a finger of white head. Aroma is fruity and spicy with belgian yeast. Taste is medium bitter. Pine and citrus with spicy belgian yeast. Just a hint of banana on the finish. Full bodied with a thick texture. Lively carbonation and a very long finish. Overall, very good. I’ve yet to have a beer from Pipeworks that has not been awesome.
