3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
This was a bit too sweet for me. As with the orange truffle this has a lot of chocolate in the nose and taste. Although where the orange triumphed this faultered. The raspberry is just too much. Its too tart and sweet. If they had toned down the raspberry just a touch this would be unbelievable. Pretty good brew but not great.
22 ounce bottle into snifter, no bottle dating. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with a 1-2 finger dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big juicy and lightly tart/tangy raspberries, fruit skin, milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, cream, fudge, and dark/brown bread; with light notes of coffee, molasses, and smoke. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt, raspberries, cocoa, and vanilla notes; with great strength. Taste of big juicy and lightly tart/tangy raspberries, fruit skin, milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, cream, fudge, and dark/brown bread; with light notes of coffee, molasses, and smoke. Mild herbal/roast bitterness and fruit tang/tartness on the finish. Lingering notes of raspberries, fruit skin, milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, cream, fudge, dark/brown bread, and light coffee/molasses/smoke on the finish for a while. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, raspberries, cocoa, and vanilla flavors; with a nice roasted bitter/sweet and tart/tangy fruit balance; with zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Very slight dryness from roast bitterness and tart/tangy fruit. Medium carbonation and full body; with a very smooth, creamy, silky, velvety, and rich mouthfeel that is fantastic. Slight slickness, chalky roast, and fruit tang/acids. Zero warming alcohol for 10.5%. Overall this is an outstanding fruit imperial milk stout! All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, raspberries, cocoa, and vanilla flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the big ABV. I am a big fan of fruit stouts. Not as much raspberry as I expected vs some others I've had, but still plenty enough. Very rich and spot on base imperial milk stout, with complementing tart/tangy fruit presence. A highly enjoyable offering. nimbleprop (8949) - SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA - SEP 12, 2017
22oz bottle pours a murky black with some sudsy, brown head. Nose has raspberries, chocolate, perfume, maybe a little.... curry powder? Flavor is chocolate, freeze dried raspberries, malt, molasses, licorice, strawberry milkshake. Sammy (13017) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - APR 1, 2017
A couple years of ageing may have helped. Mellow raspberry truffle. Very tasty and drinkable. I can see pinkish highlights in this black treat.Well crafted. Koelschtrinker (22090) - Köln (Cologne), GERMANY - MAR 14, 2017
Deutlich schokoladig malziger Antrunk. Dabei deutliche Himbeernoten, etwas Sirup. Die Malzigkeit bleibt intensiv, Espresso, Kakao. Leicht unterdurchschnittliche Karbonisierung, vollmundig. Langer, eher trockener Nachhall. 10/11/11/12/12/11 Ahuth (665) - Illinois, USA - AUG 24, 2016
Bottle. Pours black with not much of a head. The smell is chocolate and raspberry. The taste is big raspberry. Great raspberry taste with coco and vanilla after taste. Excellent beer.

Shared bottle at Craft. Hazy blackish pour with khaki head. Nose was dark malt, vanilla, chocolate, fresh raspberries. Tasted a bit sweet, with flavorful raspberry notes and well integrated vanilla and chocolate. Finished a bit sweet, but is delicious. SlovakSniper (5561) - Candiac, Quebec, CANADA - FEB 14, 2016
Batch 487-490. Bottle: The aroma consists of molasses, raspberry, light roast, and alcohol. It pours a dark brown with some orange highlights and a small beige head that quickly fades to a minimal film outlined by a thin ring. The flavor starts with moderate chocolate and light molasses. The finish has light-moderate raspberry and a touch of roast. It’s medium bodied with mild carbonation.
Tap. Jet black, dark khaki head. Rich dark chocolate, some figs, dark fruit, very berry and sweet malted milk aromas. Huge chocolate in the flavor, slight dark berry, roasty coffee notes toward the end, with berries rounding it out. Thicker, velvety body. deyholla (12590) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - NOV 1, 2015
Bottle. Pours black with a creamy chocolate brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of sweet raspberry and dark grains with a decent amount of chocolate supporting. Flavor is sweet from the combination of dark grains, chocolate and raspberry with a slight bitterness backing.
