This strong amber beer was first brewed in 1982 at the request of Van Steenberges Italian importer. Piraat is a wickedly rich and rounded brew that packs a mighty punch. The powerful glow builds up from inside. Deep golden with a subtle haze. Lots of hops and malt. Mild sweetness. Reminiscent of bread dough, spices and tropical fruits.

Cloudy honey yellow. Tall off-white head. Very nice lacing. Sweetish candy in aroma. Lots of Belgian yeast. Fruity. Full bodied. Thick palate. The taste copies the aroma. Boozy but not alcoholic. Light bitterness. Very nice.

#1250. Bottle shared with koleminer20, for the book. Aroma is tropical fruit, yeast, bready, hops, caramel malt, good. Appearance is rust orange, clearish, off white to light tan head. Taste is tropical fruit, bread, yeast, bubblegum, caramel malt, dry. Mouthfeel is dry, medium body, light crisp carbonation, dry bready fruit aftertaste. Overall, not as good as some, but solidly middle of the pack.

330 mL bottle shared with ebone1988 for this stupid book. God damnit. The pour is a coppery gold color, crystal clear, with a pillowy white head that falls leaving some decent lace. The aroma is interesting its really bready and malty with a slight tropical fruit and a light slice to it. Its an interesting blend. I like the bread, yet dislike the spices. The flavor is more malt based. There is a definite lack of spice, which I like. The bready malts are nice, and the bubblegum makes for an interesting blend. The tropical fruitiness is there with a strong caramel makes this a lot better than I thought it would be. The mouth feel is thin and light with a brighter carbonation and a very dry, malty finish. Its an interesting brew, but not awful.

Bottle - Slightly hazy golden colour, medium, slowly melting but persistent white head. Nice belgian yeasty and fruity aromas with lots of apple, plum and bread. Well balanced sweetness with some tutti frutti, honey, greem apples, pear and bread, some herbal hops. Full body, medium carbonation, silky mouthfeel and sweet fruity and doughy finish. Nice belgian strong ale, but not a World class one.

Bottle. Lidl. Amber colour. Lightly hazy. Noisy, lively, filmy, off white head. Nose has sweet, toasted malts. Boiled sweets. Pear drops. Some dried vine fruit. Some herbal, grassy hop. Taste is sticky sweet. Grassy, herbal bitter. Big, chewy, full palate. Sweet and slick. Big fizz thats not quite sitting right. Long, floral, herby bitter finish. All over the shop.
