This strong amber beer was first brewed in 1982 at the request of Van Steenberge’s Italian importer. Piraat is a wickedly rich and rounded brew that packs a mighty punch. The powerful glow builds up from inside. Deep golden with a subtle haze. Lots of hops and malt. Mild sweetness. Reminiscent of bread dough, spices and tropical fruits.

Draught @ La Vaudree 3, 13 Chaussee de Tongres, 4450 Juprelle, Belgium.

Clear medium orange color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, toasted - caramel, moderate yeasty, belgium yeast, alcohol. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a average to long duration, ruf. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft, finish feel is light alcoholic. [20100926]

33 cL bottle. Pours golden clear yellow with a huge white head. Fruity. yeasty, slight brett-ish aroma, not sure this is 100% clean, but flavour was quite nice anyway. Flavour is fruity, solid sweet caramel malt base and a nice yeasty mellow note. Ends with a nice lingering fruity and yeasty flavours with a touch of caramel and a little alcohol warmth.

The aroma is very sweet and alchoholic with notes of fruit. The color is a clear amber and it has a beutiful head, though it disappears. The flavor is very powerful and fruity. The alchohol content is hidden but gives it a great palate and prickles your tongue. It ends on a dry note instead of bitterness. A really great beer.

(Bottle 33 cl) Have been looking for this for quite some time and found it in "De Hopduvel" in Gent. So far I haven’t been that fond of the beers from Bios/Van Steenberge, but this fares a lot better. Pale golden, somewhat hazy with lots of sweet malt. In spite of the strong alcohol and full body this is pretty easy to drink. A pleasure. 070896

Gut! Test vom 15.6.2006, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 13,10,10,8,9,10 - 9,95
Earlier Rating: 5/6/2011 Total Score: 2.4
Test vom 31.5.2006, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 11,8,6,3,6,7
