This strong amber beer was first brewed in 1982 at the request of Van Steenberges Italian importer. Piraat is a wickedly rich and rounded brew that packs a mighty punch. The powerful glow builds up from inside. Deep golden with a subtle haze. Lots of hops and malt. Mild sweetness. Reminiscent of bread dough, spices and tropical fruits.

Biscuits, bubble gum, citrus and Belgian yeast in the aroma. Flavor starts sweet with a little orange, with some grassy hops, spice, and alcohol in the finish. Not on a par with the best Belgian strong ales (Duvel, etc), but still very good.

330ml bottle pours dark orange with thin off-white head. Aromas of stone fruit, yeast and candy sugar. Flavours of orange rind, sugar syrup, bready yeast, toffee, subtle spices and alcohol. Very well balanced Belgian Strong Ale with classic flavour profile.

One of the great beers. Aromas good with wet grain,, yeast, malt. Flavors super, somewhat like aroma, sweet up front tang in the middle and a little bit bitter in the finish. Add some spice and you have it.

Goudgeel, licht amber, witte schuimkraag, iets koolzuur, helder.

Bottle @ my sisters. Dark golden (or light amber) color. Frothy off white head. Aromas of alcohol, malt, sweet fruit. Retronasal its alcoholic, malty. Flavor is moderate sweet, fruity. Rather strong alcohol feel. Medium bodied. Light bitter finish. Too alcoholic and not very subtle. There was a time that I probably liked this, but that time has long gone.

Dark gold color. High carbonation. Fruity aroma, touch of funk, very yeasty. Quite sweet and boozy. Has enough hops to cut through, but still finishes quite sweet. Has a bit of spiciness, but mostly fruity. Is good, but might be a bit too much.

Bottle. Hazy pale gold in colour. Fruity (tropical fruits, pineapple, banana, hint of citrus-orange). Malty (caramel & dough). Spicy and yeasty. Spicy floral hops. Alcohol very well disguised. Sweet. Very easy to drink. Liked this! (2008)

330 ml bottle. Pours a slightly hazy amber with an off-white head. Rather mild aroma with some yeast, some malt and a grassy hoppiness. Full body with a medium to heavy sweetness and a light bitterness. The taste is malty - caramel, honey, raisins, brown sugar and spices - with a nice bitter, hoppy note along with some alcohol.
