This strong amber beer was first brewed in 1982 at the request of Van Steenberge’s Italian importer. Piraat is a wickedly rich and rounded brew that packs a mighty punch. The powerful glow builds up from inside. Deep golden with a subtle haze. Lots of hops and malt. Mild sweetness. Reminiscent of bread dough, spices and tropical fruits.

Bottle. Pale orange and gold in appearance with a cap of off-white foam. The aroma is a blend of herbal hops, bready malt and citrus with a little bit of caramel around the edges. The flavor opens up with Belgian yeast, toasted malt and citrus rind along with some brown sugar, tropical fruit and alcohol notes. Mouthfeel is full-bodied and creamy with significant carbonation and more dark sugars and citrus in the finish. Overall, another well-balanced and potent Belgian brew.

Tilpas bitter. Lidt for høj alkohol pct.

Bottle at De Paas. Almost clear copper golden with white head. Lots of sweet malts, light marzipan, peach, bitter alcohol, light grassy herbs, quite bready and some toffee. Over medium sweet with quite bitter alcoholic finish. Full bodied with alcoholic finish. Too much alcohol but not terrible.

One of the underestimated beers. Wide available in supermarkets but definitely oustanding aginst similar style beers. High on alcohol but a very pleasant balance between the sweet and the bitter. Worth trying again.
