illinismitty (2271) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - JUN 1, 2008
Bottle at Noogfest 08 courtesy of KP. Pours a dark amber with a white head. This has a fizzy, almost Belgian influenced texture. Initial flavor of toasted grains, bread, and cookie that transitions to a grapefruit, herbal, and somewhat minty bitterness. I did not pick up as much English traits as everyone else. This one seemed to struggle for identity on my palate.

sample on Nov 6, 2008. pours a deep red with a small white head. aromas of fresh piney hops... medium to full smooth body with a nice bitter presence. this one was fresh and the hops really shined. a great american english barley wine mixture.

scrizzz (2223) - Bothell, Washington, USA - JAN 18, 2010
April 2008 bottle. Caramelized grain aroma, this sample from the bottom of the bottle is murky and dark brown. Smooth and rich, little sharp alcohol, mostly creamy caramel with a waxy finish.

22, capped. Thanks, RiversideAK! Pours clear, coppery dark amber with a dense cloud of bubbles that settle out to a lacy off-white ring of foam. Caramel, brown sugar, fruit in the aroma. Creamy medium body and moderate carbonation. Finishes dry and a little hot.

RCL (2030) - Waltham, Massachusetts, USA - MAY 15, 2010
Big butterscotch aroma right up front. Flavor is medium sweet with a good hit of brown sugar and a firmly hoppy finish. A bit abrasive, perhaps it will mellow with some time in the bottle.

shp555 (2024) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - MAY 24, 2008
Pours a ruby color with a tan head. Aroma is caramel, astringent, and citrus hops. Flavor is malty, caramel, fruity, astringent, with a bitter woody earthy finish.

neepsntatties (2019) - Portland, Oregon, USA - FEB 28, 2011
Bottle at a recent BA/RB tasting. Colour... semi-cloudy amber with a thin head. Nose... sweet with hints of light chocolate malt. Palate... delicately frothy with a very malty character reminiscent of malted milk balls! Quite an alcohol punch then sticky toffee pudding, butterscotch candies and beeswax.

Bomber, thanks to sevenhokie. Rich caramel malt and dark fruit aroma with brown sugar and some hops. Pours dark ruby red with one finger of white head with good retention and lacing. Nice caramel malt and dark fruit flavors with subtle brown sugar sweetness. Finishes quite smooth with a hint of hop bitterness and just a touch of booze. Nice barleywine.

zizzybalubba (1879) - Raleigh, North Carolina, USA - JUN 25, 2010
22 oz. bottle from Appalachian Vintner in Asheville. Dark amber colored pour with a thin off-white head. Delicious aroma; notes of whiskey, wood, vanilla, and oranges. The flavor is a bit on the sweet side, however. Sugary sweet brown sugar, maple syrup, and a touch of citrus. The mouthfeel is right where it should be for a barley wine of this ABV. It’s too bad the taste did not match the aroma but this is still a good barley wine.
