On draft at Barley’s, Asheville NC. Sticky, pine resiny aroma with a hint of grapefruit. Big flavors on grapefruit and some hints of blueberry and even some raspberry. Earthy finish. As it warms, hints of melon come out. Very fruity interpretation of the style. mhelgason (495) - Salem, Oregon, USA - MAY 28, 2008
bottle. above average tan fizzy head (some lasting) into cloudy brown body with almost no lacing present. aromas of ripe fruit, brown sugar, hops, alcohol, and some vinousness. flavor is a subdued light bitter sweet throughout. above average carbonation. short to moderate finish duration. moderate texture. not as big or powerfull as expected but still quite enjoyable. 750 bottle caged and corked. Pours and medium dirty brown color with fast leaving white head as it warms. To be honest, this is not a good looking brew, lots of suspended yeast floaties. Aroma of ripe fruit, malt, light brown sugar, and mango. The taste was the same with fizzy lively carbonation. Good sweetness in the finish. Decent light and easy drinking BW. Different but good. Glad I have more to lay down. Shag (3001) - Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA - MAY 31, 2008
This poured an amber color with a large bubbly white head. The aroma contains some alcohol, bread, lemons, and brown sugar. The flavor has a sour presence but is mostly sweet with some brown sugar, dark fruit, caramel, and a hint of citrus. Overall a nice barleywine. mgumby10 (1856) - Jupiter, Florida, USA - JUL 14, 2008
UPDATED: AUG 10, 2008 Pours a dark maroon, with a small off white head. Smells of some light bready yeast, lightly sweet dark fruits, and caramel malt. The flavor has a bit of that bready yeast complex to it, with the caramel malt becoming a prominent figure in this beers identity. The finish is fairly malty with good doses of bitterness attacking the leavings on the palate. Decent little mix of dark fruit is left in the aftertaste. Not bad, but didnt blow me away.

Thanks to MGumby10 for this one. Chunky brown caramel pour with a thin white head. Lots of caramel and brown sugar aroma. Big bold caramel malt, spicy hops. Slightly hot finish, but very tasty. afterglow (1047) - Florida, USA - OCT 22, 2008
Bottle courtesy of tpd975. Pours amber with a large light tan head that leaves good lacing. Aroma of sweet malt, caramel, dark fruit, and floral hops. Taste is the same as aroma. Medium mouthfeel with a moderate amount of bitterness and smooth alcohol. Very good. WeeHeavySD (3387) - Portland, Oregon, USA - MAR 20, 2009
08 750ml corked and caged via TheBeerSommilier. After staring into my cellar like a zombie, I chose to open this, because I needed a big beer and I wanted a new rating and they came together in the form of hellbender. Drank from one of my reidel snifters. Pours rich orange with a creamy tan head. Nose is sweet and rich and smells pretty damn nice now with some hops in there too. Taste is hoppy, sweet and rich with a prickly mouth feel and a slight back end warming. I gotta say this hits the spot. AgentSteve (1647) - SF Bay Area, California, USA - AUG 10, 2009
Pours dark caramel color with no head. Nose and flavor go as bit oxidized, but brown sugar and caramel also persist. Medium to full mouthfeel. masonjer (609) - Holt, Michigan, USA - SEP 14, 2009
Metro Tasting. Poured a cloudy orange brown. Aroma is tangerine, dark fruits and sweet malt. Taste is caramel, orange, earthy dry hops, with a bitter finish. This was alright.
