Organic brown sugar and Centennial hops give this english style barleywine it’s smooth finish and extra alcohol. At a hefty 10.2% this miraculous beer is a tribute to North Americas largest Salamander, the Hellbender. A donation of $1.00 per bottle will be made to Wild South; a non- profit grassroots organization whose mission is to inspire and empower people to protect and restore the native ecosysyems of the southeast.

Bottle shared at a tasting. Thank you. Pours a rich golden caramel color with a lasting biege head. Smell on this barley wine is oranges and caramel with a light alcohol component. Taste is orange like hops and a bit of booziness to it. Medium bodied. A bit too mild flavorwise, actually. Wanted it to pop a bit more. Good, but not great.

bottle, from brewery. Good aroma, sweet. malty, chocolate, caramel, fruity, orange, fig/date, little berry, little orange, little leather, little candied sugar. Clean dark orange color, Big Head, good lace. Bittersweet flavor, doesn’t have quite as much as aroma. caramel, candied sugar, berries stand out to me, Medium body, oily creamy mouth feel, bitter dry finish. Good brew, was still a little on the hot side with the ABV and could of sat a while longer, IMO. Aroma, was good for a lot of little nuances as it warmed.

750 ml bottle provided by beastiefand2k. Pour is ruby orange, slightly hazed, with a one inch off white head. Nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of fusil alcohol, caramel honey sweetness. Some Vanilla notes. Nice nose. Taste is sharp alcohol, bright vanilla, brown sugar, caramel. Taste is not quite as pleasant as the nose, mostly the alcohol jumps out a lot more in the taste. Palate is medium, with sharp residual alcohol. Thanks for sharing this Eugene.

22 oz. bottle. Deep reddish amber with a large off white head. Caramel and fruit aromas predominate, with a backdrop of hoppiness. Smooth, medium body and carbonation, a bit sticky. Tends toward sweetness with plenty of malt flavors, but sufficient hop balance to round out the finish. Pretty decent, a solid offering from this Western NC brewer.

Big butterscotch aroma right up front. Flavor is medium sweet with a good hit of brown sugar and a firmly hoppy finish. A bit abrasive, perhaps it will mellow with some time in the bottle.

2010 Bottle - Thanks JohnGalt1!! - Pours a clear copper with a small lt orange head...aroma is sweet and grainy, cherry, citrus peel and hops, caramel...flavour is similar, sweet brown sugar, alcohol, resiny bitterness and burnt sugar...seems a bit messy and doesn’t really come together like I hoped, but good to try...

Draft at the brewery. It has a slightly cloudy orange appearance with a thin layer of white head. Hugely hoppy aroma with note of grapefruite. Big flavor of hops, tasty.

On draught at Barleys, Asheville on 7 July 2006 (at 9.5%). Dark copper colour. Sweet as hell with lots of hops. There’s a big, rich treacle character. Also orange peel and chocolate orange. Some spices and fruit cake too. Full, rich mouthfeel. Hardly subtle - I guess it’s not meant to be - but very interesting and packed with flavour, if maybe a little too rich and sticky to retain drinkability. Nice to sip and savour though.

Draft at brewer. Pours a cloudy red/brown with a medium beige head. Scent is fruit, molasses, and brown sugar. Taste is molasses, fruit , brown sugar, and malts. Strong and sweet.

Draft pour at brew pub copper. Nose sweet malt and light dank hop. Taste sweet up front, some heat, dank and floral hop. Bitter finish.
