COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The much awaited release of Pisgah's Vortex series has begun. The first offering is a triple IPA weighing in @ 10.8% and 133 IBU. This beer is packed with Chinook and Nugget hops throughout the boil. The refined bitterness within is the trademark our use of whole hop flowers and the aroma is due to 1# of dry hops per barrel for a number of loving weeks. Treat youself with caution!

Pours hazy amber with a thick beige head. Smells sweet and tart. Bitter taste with some dark fruit. Funky bitter finish, but I was shocked to see that it is 133 IBU. Doesnt seem like it is all it could be.

Draft at barleys asheville. Pours a nice copper gold with some haze. Creamy offwhite one finger head. The nose is very citrusy, malty, sweet background, mildly spicy, less upfront aroma when compared to flavor, some raw mushroom. The flavor is spicy, grapefruit rind, mango, mild phenol, citrusy, sweet malt. Nice spicy grapefruit rind bitterness.

Sampled on draft at the brewery. Pours a very hazy orange color with a large head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma is bitter, resiny hops with toffeeish malts and some nutty notes. Taste is very bitter. EXTREMELY bitter. Resin, herbal, earthy and minty, balanced by toffee. Full bodied.

Draft at the Taproom in Ashville. Pours a unclear amber with a big orange head. aroma is super hoppy. Flavor is a punch of hops, clean super bitter with nice bite. 3.5 grams hops per pint of beer. I did’nt think that beer could be any hoppier. I enjoyed this one.

Draught at Barleys in Asheville. Pours a deep amber with a small white head. Nose has a nice caramel malt sweetness along with bitter and grassy, fresh floral hops. Good crisp and bitter mouthfeel with a nice bitter, yet balanced, finish. Alcohol pretty well hidden. This kind of reminded me of what 90 minute tasted like 5 years ago. The write-up at the bar says they used 1/8oz of hops per pint of beer. They are such hippies!
