RATINGS: 128   WEIGHTED AVG: 3.56/5   SEASONAL: Special   EST. CALORIES: 324   ABV: 10.8%
The much awaited release of Pisgah's Vortex series has begun. The first offering is a triple IPA weighing in @ 10.8% and 133 IBU. This beer is packed with Chinook and Nugget hops throughout the boil. The refined bitterness within is the trademark our use of whole hop flowers and the aroma is due to 1# of dry hops per barrel for a number of loving weeks. Treat youself with caution!

UPDATED: MAR 24, 2010 (22oz bottle) Pours a clear copper body with a medium beige head. Aroma of cereal, florals, orange, earth, caramel, herbal, and apricot. Flavor of hops (pine, floral, earth, grass, orange), bread, and caramel malt with a dry, bitter finish.

hopdog (13102) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 27, 2007
Sampled for Growler courtesy of Zrrbrrt. Poured a medium and cloudy amber color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of caramel, oranges, wet grass, and lightly earthy. Tastes followed the same. Somewhat semi sugary sweet but overall had a nice balance. Alcohol content well hidden.

From Bruisn’ Ales.Pours very thick head that leaves very thick lace, on grapefruit body. Aroma is hoppy, not crazy hoppy. Chinook, Nugget, very well malted. 130 IBU rated but not getting that at all. Grapefruit, some tangerine, very tasty. Dangerously drinkable.Bomber gone, 20 minutes. Smooth creamy mouthfeel. Called triple pale, and that’s what it is.

Bottle at the 2010 March Metro Detroit tasting. Poured a very cloudy gold with and amber hue and minimal head. Aroma had notes of hops, mainly pine with an undertone of sweet grains. Flavor had more earthy hops with the just a slight undertone of grains and hay.

Bottle, thanks Ryan! Amber pour, light head. Nice aroma of floral/citrus hops and caramel malt. I get some notes of tropical fruit as well. Flavor is a bit sweeter than I expect, a big malt bill with some tropical fruit flavors and some lost hops. Not bad, not world class either.

hopscotch (11247) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - MAY 3, 2010
Bottle… Hazy golden ale with a small, creamy, white head. Good retention. The aroma is straight-up toffee and biscuit with afterthoughts of spicy hops, pine and grapefruit. Full-bodied and creamy with tingly carbonation. Flavor-wise, there are touches of toffee and biscuit here, but masochistic bitterness is most definitely the star of the show. The tongue-scorchingly bitter finish dries out a bit at the very end.

Draft at Pisgah during RBWG. Pours a slightly hazy orange amber color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have orange citrus, pine resin, some sweet caramel malts, sticky at times, hints of spicy hops. Does show the abv a bit.

phaleslu (10673) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JUL 5, 2009
Bottle from Bruisn’ Ales in Asheville in May 2009. Rich amber pour with foamy off white head. Aroma of citrus and hops with light sugary smell, too. Same flavors, with hops and alcohol strong, especially as it wears down. Somewhat bitter aftertaste, but overall pretty nice.
