COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The much awaited release of Pisgah's Vortex series has begun. The first offering is a triple IPA weighing in @ 10.8% and 133 IBU. This beer is packed with Chinook and Nugget hops throughout the boil. The refined bitterness within is the trademark our use of whole hop flowers and the aroma is due to 1# of dry hops per barrel for a number of loving weeks. Treat youself with caution!

Pours hazy amber with a thick beige head. Smells sweet and tart. Bitter taste with some dark fruit. Funky bitter finish, but I was shocked to see that it is 133 IBU. Doesnt seem like it is all it could be.

2008 Bottle - Thanks Sam! - Pours a clear orange with a large off white head...aroma is floral hops, some grapefruit and caramel malt...flavour is fairly standard IIPA, odd bitterness present, finish was nicely void of any alcohol bite...decent...

Malty sweetness and earth on the nose. Mildly funky with notes of feet, and b.o. Not the best nose. Pours hazy copper with an explosive rising head. Obviously overcarbonated. Sweet caramel, toast, toffee, feet, some earthy bitterness. Dirty and dusty. Odd.

Bottle at the 2010 March Metro Detroit tasting. Poured a very cloudy gold with and amber hue and minimal head. Aroma had notes of hops, mainly pine with an undertone of sweet grains. Flavor had more earthy hops with the just a slight undertone of grains and hay.

In a flight on tap at the taproom. Pours clear gold, with a small, off-white head. The aroma is very resinous and herbal, with notes of straw, wet grass, and some light peat. Very bitter up front, with a fairly good balancing malt profile, leaving it mouth-puckering, yet drinkable. Medium to heavy body, astringent and dry, with a clean, crisp finish. I usually look for lots of aromatics in an IPA, specifically citrus and floral, but the aroma here is strong, but unpleasant. From the description, this aroma seems to be what they were shooting for, but it dont really appeal to me.

Bottle Hazy golden ale with a small, creamy, white head. Good retention. The aroma is straight-up toffee and biscuit with afterthoughts of spicy hops, pine and grapefruit. Full-bodied and creamy with tingly carbonation. Flavor-wise, there are touches of toffee and biscuit here, but masochistic bitterness is most definitely the star of the show. The tongue-scorchingly bitter finish dries out a bit at the very end.

Stimmiges IPA ohne grere Besonderheiten. 9/9/9/10/13/10

The aroma very hoppy and sweet with citrus and pine as well as brown sugar. The appearance is amber with a small head. The taste is like the aroma. The palate is smooth. Overall its interesting but a bit too astringent for me.
