Taster at Pisgah during RBWG. Really dark pour with minimal khaki head. Reminds me of cold hot cocoa, so cold cocoa, I guess. A touch of marshmallow to it. A fIreplace beer if you want something cold. Dark cocoa goodness and vanilla sweetness. Straightforward and good.

Pours a very dark brown, almost black; opaque at the center but transparent at the edges. Aroma is chocolatey and medium/deep malt. Touch of toffee as well. Taste is very chocolatey, nice bitter chocolate. Sweet malt towards the middle. Body is a bit thin for a stout, but carbonation is spot on.

icehawk (834) - Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, USA - DEC 27, 2013
Bottle, 2012 bottling. Oily black with short lasting brown head. Aroma of molasses, hint of black licorice, and chocolate. Big, chewy, slightly sweet. No bitterness, and finishes exceptionally smooth. Nice complexity, but also good balance .

DiarmaidBHK (5662) - Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 14, 2013
Bottle from Appalachian vintner. Pours black with a very thin khaki head that disappears quickly. Doesn’t leave much lacing in the glass. A bit of sweetness on the nose. Fairly sour on the tongue with a little bit of vanilla. Finishes lingers a bit. Flavorful but not my favorite interpretation of the style.

3.9
Chudwick (3312) - Taylor Mill, Kentucky, USA - JUN 16, 2013
Bomber thanks to the cousins from the barrio - pours black brown head. Nose is sour ale with dark berries. Flavor adds coffee, licorice, wood and booze. Tart, biter and sour. Nose is misleading and burns the throat.

ContemplateBeer (2089) - Louisville, Kentucky, USA - JUN 10, 2013
Bottle shared with Ed and Travlr; Ed is a very friendly fellow. Aroma of fig, dark cocoa, waffle cone. Appearance is black with a ring of mocha head. Flavor has a bit more coffee, but maintains the complex malts of the nose. Palate is full, oily and very soft. Decadent and delicious.

Bottle courtesy of ed, thanks! Motor oil black, small beige head. Aroma of rich vanilla and dark milk chocolate. Taste is rich brandied cocoa and espresso. Delicious.

Cracked this one late Christmas day with my son as well. It was from 09 all I’ll say is drink them if you got them. This one may have sat to long slight funk in the brew so I’ll just give it average ratings all along Will have to grab a fresher bottle and revisit it again
