Bottle shared with the missus. Pours a very dark brown/black with a medium beige head that leaves pretty good lacing. Nose is of roasted malt, chocolate and red wine. Balance between each components seem to be really good with none shouting higher than the others. Taste is indeed pretty winey with more of the red wine (must be pinot), chocolate and a very light sweetness. Lightly bitter, too. No ash. Well, I say no ash, but there was this one time (on the first sip?) I got some very faint ash. It doesn’t detract at all, though. You know it is boozy but it never shows more than a slight chest warming. Moderate body, moderate carb. Vinous. A really solid red wine BA porter! We both really enjoyed it. Yum!

Bottle @ Bistro L’Autre Oeil. Dark brown with a very lively light brown head. Dark fruits and vinous character are marred by musty mushroom character and a thin mouthfeel. Lightly sour, but ultimately this didn’t hold appeal for me due to intrusive off notes.

500 ml bottle from Broue Ha Ha, served quite cool in a tulip glass.
<br App.: Deep brown-black with a decent mocha head. Aroma: Sour, sour wine, smells infected and not much else comes through. Palate: Medium+ body, moderate-full carbonation. Flav.: Sour, twangy, infected, a bit of roasted malt; dry with decent bitterness and moderate tang, finish tastes of infection.

Gross. What a waste!

500 ml bottle. Pours black with a thick, resilient beige head. Aroma is chocolate, date, hazelnut and roast. Flavor is chocolate, date, fig, red wine, nice boozey. Finish is oldish, woody, aged, hazelnut, funky ending. Lingering wine, coffee. Great. Medium body, soft, velvety, oily mouthfeel, weak carbonation. Extremely impressive.

500mL bottle, sent from yourilevesque (thanks a lot, Youri), pours black with a reddish tinge and a medium beige head. Aroma brings out lovely notes of red wine barrels and wood upfront, followed by some roast further down. Flavour is dominated by the red wine barrels, with loads of wood and vinous notes upfront. Just a touch of roast and maybe some coffee way further down. This is a red wine and wood bomb, but it’s done wonderfully. Really excellent.
