On draft at brewery, 02/25/08. Clear, very dark brown. Slight malty aroma (caramel?). Smooth in mouth. Sweet malt at first, then flavor explodes! Big wood notes and massive bitterness that lingers with salty, oily feel long after swallow. Interesting. ucusty (2691) - raleigh, North Carolina, USA - FEB 24, 2008
Growler Swap 1.0 Round 4 Thanks to Riverside AK for this! Pours dark Brown with small khaki head and spotty lacing. Fruity with a roasted malt backbone and subtle hints of chocolate . Slight hoppy finish. Alcohol is well masked. hellbilly (3249) - scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA - FEB 11, 2008
on tap @ papago. pours dark brown, nearly black with a fluffy light brown head which leaves behind decent lacing... it’s one of the darkest BWs i’ve seen. aroma is really fruity with notes of malt/grain, caramel and grassy hops. flavor’s the same combined with apples, light chocolate and hoppy bitterness. the finish and aftertaste are of bitter hops. medium body. the hops really help to cut the sweetness and make this a very drinkable BW... On tap at Pizza Port San Clemente
Dark reddish brown with a one finger dirty white head. The flavor had a nice mixture of both hops and malty. The 9.5%ABV was well-hidden. Bockyhorsey (2628) - Mesa, Arizona, USA - FEB 8, 2008
Had this on tap @ Papago in Scottsdale AZ. Bread and sweet fruit for aroma. Dark body with decent head. Flavor was a good dose of syrupy cherry and somewhat chewy. Felt like my face warmed 10 degrees but the alcohol content was well hidden. Good filling brew.
