UPDATED: DEC 31, 2009 1/2 pint on the fly at san Clemente locale with D at my side. Malty, strong, like angels share without the barrels. Very good. trokini (1025) - San Diego, California, USA - APR 21, 2008
Tap @ Solana Beach. Pours a murky copper with an oily ring of bubbles. Heavy earth aroma, with wood, leather, molasses, toffee, and hops. Slightly syrupy mouthfeel. Rich caramel malt, some toast, strong resiny hops, and a nice finish of earthy, woody alcohol. Some say it is a bit harsh, and I agree, but its harsh in a good barleywine way. elnadeau (786) - Laguna Niguel, California, USA - APR 18, 2008
On tap at PP SC. Dark and brown, aroma has some caramel, fruit and toast. Medium body, medium sweet with dark fruit esters, roasted malt in the background, nice bitter finish. Too drinkable for a 9.5, I like it. wetherel (1893) - Cupertino, California, USA - APR 19, 2008
Had a taster at PP Carlsbad during lunch.
Surprizingly nice chocolately aroma for a barleywine. Must have some roasted grains. Big tan microbubble head. Nice barleywine. Alcohol well hidden. Easy to drink. A bit young tasting...a bit harsh. Mild flavor (relative to the hoppy beers I’m also tasting) doubleo (1432) - San Diego, California, USA - FEB 13, 2010
On tap at PPSB. Pours ruddy, red/brown with a small, filmy, offwhite head and spider web lace. Smells of sweet, deep, rich malts with caramel and sugar. Tastes big and sugary, malty, sweet. Some dark fruit, some spice, some cereal but mostly big sweetness. Quad like for sure. Full body, good carbonation.

Had this on tap @ Papago in Scottsdale AZ. Bread and sweet fruit for aroma. Dark body with decent head. Flavor was a good dose of syrupy cherry and somewhat chewy. Felt like my face warmed 10 degrees but the alcohol content was well hidden. Good filling brew. JohnC (3008) - Mission Viejo, California, USA - FEB 11, 2008
On tap at Pizza Port San Clemente
Dark reddish brown with a one finger dirty white head. The flavor had a nice mixture of both hops and malty. The 9.5%ABV was well-hidden. Ungstrup (38489) - Citizen of the universe, DENMARK - JUN 6, 2009
Draft at San Clemente. A deep red beer with a thin off-white head. The aroma is sweet malty combined with notes of caramel, alcohol, and nuts. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of caramel and alcohol, as well as medium notes of malt and nuts, leading to a dry, nutty, and alcoholic finish. The alcohol leaves a burn on the palate. Tap at Strong Ale 2009. Pours dark amber with a tan head. Nose is hoppy and sweet. Taste is hopped up and has a good barleywine.
