Clear ruby red brown color/ tan head. Sweet chocolate, sugary floral hop aromas. medium body. Bittersweet flavors of dark chocolate, caramel, mild coffee, pine sap, medium roasted malts; a bit thin. brokensail (16645) - Dublin, California, USA - FEB 15, 2010
A: Jet black with just a bit of head but decent lacing.
S: Grapefruit and piney hops, a mild grass aroma, no real roasted aroma, which was surprising.
T: The taste is pretty much right on for what I was looking for. Not quite the same level of roasted maltiness that Stone 11/Sublimely Self-Righteous has. Like the nose, plenty of grapefruit citrus and a bit of sweetness. Quite a bit of piney bitterness.
M: Quite bitter, fairly moderate carbonation, medium body.
D: The booze is hidden on this, which is quite nice. I really like the Black IPA style, so this was right up my alley. AndreaDel (56) - Rome, ITALY - FEB 7, 2010
Draft at 4:20, Rome. Dark brown red color with huge creamy and cream color head. Massive hop aroma, lovely vanilla nose. Taste sweet, the hop dominates the roasted malts. These beer is like a vanilla ice cream in the mouth. Roasted malts and hops are perfectly matched, medium body. So smoothy and refreshing with a dry end. I love this beer. ajm (1072) - Los Angeles, California, USA - NOV 12, 2009
Tap at PP Carl. I have become a sucker for black IPAs and this certainly didn’t disappoint. Nose is a rather earthy hop with some nicely roasted malts. Flavor is more of the same with a very thick creamy texture. Light chocolate compliments the green hops. Very good.

On tap at PP Carlsbad a few weeks back. Color was a dark brown to black. Aroma of roasted malt, with a lot of citrus. Really nice aroma. In the flavor the "dark" component was largely overshadowed by a very good IPA. Hoppy and citrusy. MIBRomeo (2579) - Wisconsin, USA - OCT 9, 2009
Black pour w/ a huge thick tan head and great lacing. Big sweet citrus hop aroma light floral ntoes some hints of strawberries, not at all what I expected from this pour. Good full nice palate. Outstanding, smooth fruity IPA just delicious. waolsen (1376) - Littleton, Colorado, USA - OCT 8, 2009

Draft at PP Carlsbad. Dark brown/red pour with nice thick foam head. Roasted malt, caramel, bitter hops, pine, citrus, and grapefruit. It’s a really nice black IPA, one of the better ones. DaSilky1 (2608) - San Diego, California, USA - SEP 19, 2009
Draft at small bar: Lacey off-white head, dark blackish appearance. Caramelly hop nose. Flavors caramelly and hoppy with notes of toffee. and a slight hint of medicine, and bursts of minty pine. Very drinkable beer and refreshing with a little toffee depth added to the usual west coast ipa flavors
