Clear ruby red brown color/ tan head. Sweet chocolate, sugary floral hop aromas. medium body. Bittersweet flavors of dark chocolate, caramel, mild coffee, pine sap, medium roasted malts; a bit thin. BBB63 (6557) - La Porte, Indiana, USA - APR 27, 2008
Tap at DLD 2008: Boy was I surprised to see this, thanks Nick and the guys at FFF for bringing in this guest beer!riversideAK (6261) - Shoreline, Washington, USA - AUG 12, 2008
Nearly opaque with a small off-white head and good lacing. The aroma has notes of grapefruit and mango, piney resiny hops, a bit leafy and earthy too, some charred and caramel malt, and a hint of woody smoke. The taste is quite balanced between the malt and hop providing a few different layers of bitterness. The acidity cleans the palate and makes you really for the next taste. Mild roast and smoke towards the mineral tones finish. The mouth feel is aggressive and bright. A very nice beer overall.
Dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is strong and hoppy with West Coast prerequisites of grapefruit and pine. Darker malts hit first on the flavor with an interesting roast and a little fruitiness. This is trumped by huge hops. Pine and grapefruit take over and kick my mouth’s ass. Bitter and resiny. Dry and tasty. Unique mix between roast and hops. I liked this one a lot! Skyview (6093) - Papoose Jct, Minnesota, USA - MAY 26, 2008
Guest tap on draught at Dark Lord Days ’08. Pours an opaque dark brown brew with a thin off-white head that has some nice retention and sticky lacing throughout. Aroma of sweet grapefruit, a touch of roasted chocolate malt, some mellon, and pine. Taste is medium to full bodied, light carbonation with flavors of toasted and slightly smoked dark malts, grapefruit and some citrus zest. Finish is semi-sweet with a smoked dark malt aftertaste the slowly disappears. JohnnyJ (5569) - San Diego, California, USA - SEP 19, 2009
Draft at PP Carlsbad. Dark brown/red pour with nice thick foam head. Roasted malt, caramel, bitter hops, pine, citrus, and grapefruit. It’s a really nice black IPA, one of the better ones.
