Plovmand (8630) - Grindsted, DENMARK - JUN 20, 2010
On tap at 4:20. Dark brown with a creamy tan head. Peach, caramel and light roasted malt in aroma. Some pine and citrus. The flavour is pine, peach, light coffee and some roasted notes. Citrussy finish.

RBESG 2010, draught at Brasserie 4:20
Black color; generous creamy, beige head. Nice, creamy hops aroma, light (good) tomato sauce too, lightly cheesy, very light coffee. Smooth mouthfeel (because the carbonation is gone); chocolate and roasted malt flavor, but quite well balanced by resiny hops; there is some residual sweetness at first, but it feels drier at the end. Good without thrill, without biting.

Vac (2445) - San Diego, California, USA - MAR 13, 2007
Pours with a dark brown body topped by a thick, off-white head with a good amount of lacing. It’s sweet and malty with a kick of piney hops and underlying caramel note and a bitter finish. Medium bodied, smooth and a touch dry.

Bartzilla (624) - La Mesa, California, USA - MAR 14, 2007
Tap @ Live Wire. Glad to see this again as I forgot to rate it after having some at Liar’s Club. Daunting, yet an easy drinker with a substantial hop finish. Pretty damn delicious.

the body is confusing me because it’s black, which is obviously not normal for any kind of IPA, and certainly makes me wonder how Three Floyds didn’t think of this! regardless, it’s good--a nice, literally dark IIPA (though more subtle than others in the same class) that i never knew i would ever enjoy.

3.6
JorisPPattyn (10072) - BELGIUM - APR 22, 2008
Draught; described by Jeff as a double IPA Black beer with orange-brown highlights, covered with a cream-coloured head. Hops, and this time no doubt US ones; fresh and leafy, some cookies. Sharp bitter, near-metallic taste with bitter chocolate flavours; long bitter-harsh aftertaste. Well bodied, but rather harsh on the throat. Not bad! Original interpretation of an IIPA.

bluemeow76 (693) - Lewis Center, Ohio, USA - JUL 4, 2008
Sample at the pizza port in Carlsbad. Citrus aroma, nice hops, slight pine in the taste. Good all around.

Ughsmash (7510) - Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA - AUG 5, 2008
Poured deeper brown with a short cap of beige head.. nice clarity to it. The aroma picked up brilliant pine and citrusy hoppage upfront with toasty caramel and sweeter chocolate behind.. very well balanced. The flavor had sweet chocolate and nutty sweetness surrounded by pine bitterness and faint black cherry tartness.. dry finish with an odd contrast between the malts and hops. Dry overall on the palate and scratchy with bitterness.. just a bit rough for me.

3.5
Beershine (5253) - VANCOUVER, British Columbia, CANADA - APR 28, 2008
Draught from PP Carlsbad. Totally opaque dark brown with very white nitro-looking creamy long lasting milkshake head. Sweet but balanced nose. Hot! Solvent! Disappointment.

3.5
Theis (15151) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - JUN 6, 2010
Bottle at RBESG 2010, Rome. Almost black - offwhiye head. Roasted. Milkey. Fruity. Peppery. Vegetables. Fruity. Light yeasty. Burned. Nice.
