Cascadey grapefruit perfume aggressively spicing up the fruit salad underneath…A few orange zest shavings float on the trim body and are bolded by a crisp alcohol nibble…A hop-accented barley wine which is drinkable enough to be had by the pint… Cybercat (6334) - Georgia, USA - FEB 3, 2012
Comes out of the tap a luscious, opaque, dark golden amber with a very thick and rather persistent light golden-tan head. Strong, malty aroma has fruity and caramel notes as well as a subtle woody undertone. Flavor has a woody core with fruity and malty notes and hints of caramel and horehound. Alcohol bite is strong but not too fierce. Firm-bodied texture is smooth yet edgy and leaves a strong and fairly persistent tingle. Finish has woody and fruity notes plus a respectable alcohol bite. Let this bombshell explode in your mouth! But please don’t get, ahem, bombed if you have to drive. ;) beerguy101 (5364) - Newark, California, USA - MAR 6, 2003

UPDATED: SEP 23, 2004 (Draft: Pizza Port in Carlsbad, CA) Not a huge barleywine, being a bit more subdued than many others in the style; Nicely balanced, hoppy and sweet with a nice maltiness and pleasant fruity flavor early on; It finishes with a big hoppy push and a bit of grapefruit; Alcohol is pretty well kept at bay; Fairly heavy palate, but not cloying; Pale amber in color; Sweet, hoppy nose is kinda fruity; Off white head is bubbly and fades fast, but the large bubbles along the edge retain well and leave a fair amount of patchy lacing<HR>Rerated on 20-Sep-04 (Draft: Pizza Port in Carlsbad, CA) The nose is moderately sweet, malty, alcohol, light hops, so smells like a typical barleywine is on the way, but it is markedly different than the flavor; It's sweet and mildly malty, yes, but also quite hoppy and bitter for a well balanced barleywine; What's distinctive here is the strong orage citrus flavor along with orange peel and grapefruit notes, especially in the finish; Bitter hops cuts into the thick palate, so it's crisp and clean, not cloying; Light amber in color; One of the few barleywines I can remember with a thick, dense head exhibiting good retention; Leaves a thin, but solid coat of lacing; My description is different for the two tastings, but the ratings were identical, despite being done independently of one another

GABF 2003: Clear orange with a large white head. Huge pine aroma, oily/syrupy mouthfeel, starts off lightly bitter and ends sweet. Long solid aftertaste. Gusler (2652) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - DEC 10, 2003

The beer pours a somewhat hazy deep orange with a modest head that is semi-creamy in texture and the color a light tan with a decent covering of lace. Nose is fusel alcohol, sweet malt, light bit of earthiness also noticed, and start is quite sweet, nicely malted and the top moderate in feel. Finish is stern in its acidity with the hops dynamically spicy; dry but somewhat sweet aftertaste, a decent a decent representative to the style and the 10.2 ABV does warm the tummy.

UPDATED: FEB 22, 2003 Dark amber with a foreskin shaped head..Malty sweet but alcohol cannot be hidden...Not overbearing though due to some nice creamy notes...carmel-like, kinda toffeeish Vac (2445) - San Diego, California, USA - JUL 12, 2004
