3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at PP Solana beach. Very pale yellow color. Low hop aroma and bitterness. Light hint of corn sweetness. No skunk. Super easy to drink, like water. Good.
On tap at the original Pizza Port in Solana Beach. Pours a clear light yellow color with good white lacing, not much head. Aromas of faint honey, little bit of malt, lager notes. Taste is like seltzer water, not much flavor going on. Refreshing but not enough for my palate. GlenVargas (148) - Missouri, USA - JAN 7, 2012
This is the only beer review I’m going to be able to pull off from the Great California Excursion of December 2011. I grabbed a pitcher of the Cardiff Cream at Pizza Port Solana Beach because I had to get a beer that looked enough like a standard pale lager for the GF to enjoy. It’s still a solid option--nothing too fancy, rather conservative, but finely-crafted just the same. The Cardiff Cream has enough heartiness and flavor, tending more towards the sweet than the bitter, to separate it from some more boring golden ale or lager varieties. And, this beer reminds me more of, say, a Boddington’s in appearance and mouth-feel than other goldens/blondes I’ve tasted. Again, I wasn’t blown away by the Cardiff Cream (as I was by the Cowabunga Cream Stout), but it has a lot of appeal for a wide range of palates. SledgeJr (3577) - Omaha, Nebraska, USA - JAN 25, 2010
On tap at Solana Beach. Pours bright gold with almost no head. Just a thin white suggestion. The beer has good bitterness on the tongue, medium carbonation. Crisp, like a kolsch. Because it’s not creamy at all it misses on style points but tastes good regardless. Clean and flawless.
