Black with a small off-white head. Aroma of chocolate and exotic fruit. Sweet licorice dominated dark flavour with balancing hop bitterness

Tap at Pizza Port Carlsbad. Poured a clear, deep brown with excellent to insanely sheety lace. Roast, grapefruity hops in the nose. Taste is a little gross: old tea, old hops, dirty earth, olives, pimento. Briny, salty.

A: The pour is nearly black, but we’ll call it very dark brown. The head is khaki in color and somewhat minimal in terms of size. S: There is a nice citrus note to the nose in the form of oranges and grapefruits, along with quite a bit of sweet tropical fruit. The amount of (sweet) malt presence was also surprising, and there is not much in the way of the roast. T: This beer is far too sweet for my liking. Lots of caramel, some alcohol, and sweet fruit notes from the hops. The pineapple flavor seems to be especially prevalent. M: The body is a bit thick and could be a bit syrupy at points. The carbonation is moderate. D: The Black "IPA" is a trend that I’m generally a fan of (yes, I’m a sucker). But this beer didn’t live up to my hopes and just was too sweet.

Overall, this beer was terrible, it was about as vile a beer as they come. I’ll avoid it like the plague form now on. It said black IPA, but tasted more like black mold.

2.6
Skinnyviking (9570) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - NOV 15, 2010
Draught. Low fluffy off-white lasting head. Pitch black body. Hoppy fruity aroma and flavor with low carbonation and a long aftertaste.
