UPDATED: SEP 27, 2010 Sample at the brewpub. The beer is a clear brownish-amber color with a medium thin light beige head that recedes steadily. Short stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt and nuts. Medium body with sweet bready malt and nut flavors, along with some hops. The finish is malty with a lingering roast aftertaste. Above average overall. ajm (1072) - Los Angeles, California, USA - OCT 9, 2009
CASK at San Clemente. This is the reason people don’t like browns. Nose of sweet cream&sugar malts. Color is a beef broth brown. Flavor is sweet malt, light spice, maybe graham cracker or butter cookie. Too cutesy-poo. bu11zeye (13239) - Frisco (Dallas), Texas, USA - SEP 9, 2009
(Draught) Pours a hazy amber-brown body with a small tan head. Aroma of nuts, grass, and caramel. Flavor of roasted malt, light cocoa, nuts, subtle coffee undertones, and caramel. BMan1113VR (7930) - Los Angeles, California, USA - JUL 20, 2009
On tap at PP San Clemente. Pours with a hazy brown body and a light tan head. Aroma of chocolate, nuts, coffee, caramel and light hops. Taste is coffee, lightly metallic and chocolate. Light mouthfeel and a bit fizzy.
To be real honest, this doesn’t taste too dissimilar from the Dawn Patrol Mild. BeerFanDan17 (1122) - Brunswick, Maine, USA - JAN 26, 2009
One of the best brown ales I’ve ever had. Almost a nut brown ale. The flavors were nutty with notes of hazelnut and cream. A really exceptional brew.

From a half gallon growler filled at the San Clemente location yesterday. Color is a deep ruby brown with a tan head. Aroma has notes of roast and a little coffee. Flavor compliments the aroma with malt, some coffee and a touch of roast. A little sweetness and a soft bitterness in the background. Drinkable and smooth. Draft in San Clemente. A deep red beer with a thin tan head. The aroma is sweet malty combined with notes of nuts and roasted malt. The flavor is sweet malty - roasted malt, and a light note of soy sauce. The body is thin. yespr (48910) - Copenhagen O, DENMARK - AUG 6, 2008
From tap at San Clemente. Solid roasted malt and coffee. Flavour is hardroasted malt which gives a slight watery finish at first but as the flavours build up the roasted malt gives a steady nice acidic roasted bitterness. Nicely dry and somewhat coffeeish finish. Nik925 (800) - USA - AUG 4, 2008
On tap (From Jan 2008). Nothing special about the aroma, but the malt taste is great. Undertones of caramel and a slight hint of chocolate mixed with great roast malt flavor. Another solid brew from Pizza port decaturstevo (6343) - decatur, Tennessee, USA - FEB 16, 2008
On tap at Port Brewing. Light brown ale alroma that cries of light malt. Semi sweet but not cloying. Not much bitter but pleasant. A good roasted malt flavor. Solid palate just a tad thin but not bad. Carbonation is good as well. I like that as you roll your tongue around in your mouth it wakes up some bitter. A very good brown ale for me.
