On tap at GABF where this beer won a fairly well-deserved gold. Labeled as "Ernest’s Silky Smoove." It does indeed appear "smoove" and black with a small, lasting tan head. Aroma is roast, coffee, and vanilla. Flavor is roasted malt, caramel, toasted oats, coffee, chocolate, and vanilla. Palate is medium-full and very creamy from the oatmeal. Overall really solid. elihapa (1554) - Honolulu, Hawaii, USA - OCT 5, 2009
10/3/09 notes: on tap, brewpub. Pours velvety black and smooth. Aroma features mild toasted oats, lactose, and roasted wood. Quite pleasant. Flavor is bready, roasted with no bitterness, and cookie-like, building with a gentle creaminess. Finish is light in flavor and smooth. A rather tame, though well-executed Oatmeal Stout. iowaherkeye (2703) - Ocean Beach, San Diego, California, USA - SEP 24, 2009
On tap @ San Clemente. Black with a small tan head, fair retention. Flavor is mainly roasted malts and bitter chocolate. The flavor adds milk chocolate and some light toasted coconut in the finish. Bitterness peaked @ a 3. Medium body with light to moderate carbonation. The coconut saved this beer from mediocrity--though I don’t think there is any coconut in here. On tap at the brewpub in San Clemente. Pours a black body with a creamy, off-white head that dissipates slowly and leaves a lot of thick lacing. Aroma is very rich. Lots of smooth, dark bittersweet chocolate and mild roasts. Some herbal hoppiness as well. Similar rich flavor. Definitely more roasty than a typical oatmeal stout. A bunch of citrus towards the end and even some slightly sour cherries. Finishes quick and smooth with a creamy chocolate, roasty lingering taste. Palate is relatively full bodied. Overall, a pretty impressive oatmeal stout. Balanced with lots of flavor from beginning to end. Nice. AmEricanbrew (6878) - Same Trailer, Different Park, Louisiana, USA - OCT 26, 2008
Black with a tan head. Nice nutty back malt aroma. Medium body. Vinous sweet and blackened malt flavors. Tasted stale. Draft @ PPSC

Pizza port San Clemente. Pours dark with a dark tan head. Hints of coffee and caramel. Taste sweet with small bitterness. The palate was very thin, like water. Overall a good beer and I wasn’t disappointed. User57106 (246) - - FEB 25, 2008
On hand pump at Pizza Port San Clemente, 02/25/08. Cask conditioned and served at nearly room temp, this black pour had almost no head and no carbonation. Smells like black coffee. Tastes the same, but with subtle sour cherries and even more fleeting chocolate on finish. Didn’t notice the oat flavor. Nice, but not the home run I had been expecting.
