12 oz. bottle from DarkElf – huge thanks for this rare treat Stephen! Pours a hazy orange with a modest and small head. Aroma… yep, juicy & fruity & enticing but maybe a little harsh. I’m not sure how old is this bottle but I can imagine this is incredible when fresh. Flavor is all hops and bitterness backed up biscuity malts and with a dry alcohol. There is a slight metallic undertone in the flavor which doesn’t make me too excited. Should try to get a fresh sample of this legend someday. sandygoonie (48) - Seattle, Washington, USA - MAR 24, 2006
On tap on business Big excellent hop decent head for such a thich brew. Anise and plum in flavor and a sweet caramel in aftertaste. I mentioned in my Fred rating(hair of dog) there should be a duel between Frank and Fred magicbill (19) - Indiana, USA - MAR 20, 2006
12 OZ bottle from John B. from San Diego who is not in rate beer but should be He really knows his beer. Poured cloudy golden color with almost no head. The flavor became more intense as it warmed up. Grapefruit and citrus dominate the taste with hints of plum, grape and carmel. Wish I had bought more when in S.D. This is in the upper ranks of IPA’s, smcd (366) - USA - MAR 8, 2006
The frank is nice, but ’tis not my favorite IPA. Big hop notes supported by an admirable malt backbone. Stands with the best, but the hard so.cal water ultimately doesn’t wash as well as that soft no.cal stuff. 11026 (1772) - Alabama, USA - MAR 4, 2006
Bottle from DarkElf. Pours a hazed up medium amber color with no head formation to speak of even with a vigorous pour. Aroma is a fantastic blend of malt and hop. Generous doses of pine resin, citrus rind and a lightly raisiny malt aroma. Very well blended nose and enticing. Full bodied, nearly chewy with a lower carbonation level. Piney hop flavor blends with a sweet caramel malt backbone to harmonize well. Moderate sweetness is cut by a citric bitterness. A fantastic double IPA.

Bottle. Light hazy deep gold with a nice sticky head and good lace. Aroma is piney, harsh, citrus, herbal and lightly metallic. Flavor mildly metallic, harsh citrus and piney hops, grassy finishes with a sweet sticky malt. Finishes a bit metallic, and has a wierd high carbed mouthfeel. Pretty good from what I remember on tap, but the bottled version seemd not up to par, but also could have been old. jimmack (1223) - Nutley, New Jersey, USA - JAN 30, 2006
12oz. bottle thanks to Mullman. Hazy orange color with a small off white head. Beautiful citrus hop aroma with a bit of caramel and pine. Flavor is a constant battle , going from citrus hops to sweet malts and then to a bit of pine before grapefruit comes back into play. Really nice beer from a company I’ve yet to have a bad beer from. gputty (456) - Virgina Beach, Virginia, USA - JAN 21, 2006
From bottle. Poured a cloudy, dull orange with no head and minimal lace. Nose is a delectable sent that reminds me of a strawberry fruit roll-up. Flavor is of an orange, pineapple citrus that mellows into a smooth and sweet bitter finish. Alcohol noticeable, but adds nicely to the overall taste. Mouth-feel is spot on. A wonderful brew. Thanks Pailhead, Poured Hazy Orange with a off white cream colored head that dissappeared quickly. Aromas were Hop citrus, oil , floral and piney with hints of graoefruit. Nice balanced citrus hop flavor. Not over the top with bitterness or sweetness. Flavor was very impressive for a double ipa Defenitly my top three in catergory chargerfanjess (129) - San Diego, California, USA - JAN 13, 2006
What a quality IPA! Clear dark orange pour fresh from my Pizza Port growler. This growler was filled up two days ago. Finally, this pour is topped off by a ½ beige head that fades to a scant slick as I progress thru this one.
Fresh cut grass & piney, lods of hops oil scents meet an equally robust flavor of the same. There is an aftertaste balance back towards hints of malty candy, but the hops in this IPA are all about it. The floral bouquet and citrus grapefruit peel is more located on the tongue than in the nose.
The acidic sizzle is down to a dull roar here. This is a total sipper. I could drink these all night.
Last swigs: What an all around quality pleasure of a local IPA.
