On tap at Pizza Port Ocean Beach. Black in color with a decent cream colored head. Aroma is of pine, floral hops, citrus, roasted malts. Taste is more malt forward than a lot of other BIPAs with notes of roasted malts and chocolate, oranges, pine and grass. GT (10000) - San Diego, California, USA - JAN 24, 2014

Origin: Tap at Pizza Port Bressi Ranch
Glass: Normal pint
Long: Pours clear deep cola, excellent sheets of lacing. Nose is tootsie roll, savory grilled pineapple, ripe jackfruit. Taste is aggressive pine bitterness, white sage, orange chocolate, lactic finish is absolutely perfect. Juicy, no real astringent or harsh bitterness, just orange peel bitter dark chocolate bar. Extremely drinkable.
Remedy: Make more
I usually don’t like black IPA’s but this has a nuttiness I love. (Draught) Pours an opaque black body with a medium tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, pine, and weed. Flavor of roasted malt, chocolate, caramel, pine, and citrus with a dry, bitter finish.

On tap. Pours with a near black hued body and a lasting tan head. Aromas are of tangerine, citrus, light roast, grapefruit and lightly grassy hops. Mostly clean. Flavors are of tea, light tannin, dark roast, fruit, hoppy, grassy, citrus zest. Bitter, decent balance. Medium bodied, lively carbonation with a dry finish. bu11zeye (13029) - Frisco (Dallas), Texas, USA - JUL 19, 2012

The pour is dark brown in color with a khaki head. Nose is heavy on the chocolate and roasted malt with mostly a pine hop character, maybe a little bit herbal. The flavor is fairly bitter, but again, mostly just pine and herbal hop notes, and they are not at the forefront. Definitely a malt forward beer with some bready sweetness and the roast and dark chocolate notes coming through more than anything else. Not the way I prefer my Black IPAs. iowaherkeye (2703) - Ocean Beach, San Diego, California, USA - MAY 11, 2012
It looks like this is actually a PP San Clemente beer, checking their Facebook post yesterday. Anyways, it’s a collaboration with White Labs, Briess, and Hop Union. Tap at Ocean Beach. Clear deep ruby (with my phone flash) and a one finger creamy beige, clingy with pretty decent retention. Roasty chocolate notes up front with moderate pine and sweaty citrus (Cascade? That you?) and toasty caramel behind. Flavor has stronger caramel notes, but the chocolate and roast persist, pine the dominant hop note. The finish is dry, burnt ash, bitterness peaking at a 7ish. Carbonation moderate, medium body. This beer is the reason I don’t like black IPAs. Some still may dig this beer, though. peteinSD (1469) - San Diego, California, USA - MAY 11, 2012
Tap @ PP Carlsbad. Black pour with a froth of tan foam. Aroma is clean , sharp pine with a backdrop of hop bitterness and even roasted malt. Taste is hop bitterness up front followed by chocolate and roast. Bit too heavy on the hop bitterness with the roast somewhat out of balance. Clean and somewhat light in the mouth. Nice but the roast is overshadowed by the bitterness.
