WOW! Best beer of the day. Splendid hazy orange pour with a big nose of hop, spice and caramel malt.
Taste was a bit grapefruit, grass and sweet malts. The blend was perefectly balanced. The dry finish left me wanting more. DAMN IT! Why didn’t I buy two of these? jsh12bama (681) - Alabama, USA - FEB 12, 2011
Draft at San Clemente. Pours orangish/amber with thick white head. Unreal aroma of piney and citrus hops. Best aroma of any beer I have ever had. Could have just smelled the beer for hours. Taste has huge hop bite with grassy and citrus finish. Tried years ago at GABF and loved it. I always held Pliney as my best IIPA, until I had this again. Had Pliney the next day after having this, and not in the same league to me. Best IIPA I have had. HopMasterFlex (108) - Carlsbad, California, USA - FEB 12, 2011
Pours a deep golden color with great lacing and retention. It smells of pine, citrus, and some tropical fruits (pineapple and passion fruit maybe). Tastes very hoppy with sides of citrus and some bitter hops at the end. Easy to drink considering the abv content. nbutler11 (1267) - Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, ENGLAND - JAN 19, 2011
Draft at the Carlsbad location. Dark golden, solid lacing. Smells and tastes predominantly of pine and citrus. Solid IPA. Travlr (24745) - Charlotte, North Carolina, USA - JAN 17, 2011
Draft at the brewpub. Dark golden, solid lacing. Aroma of pine, taste is too bitter, but has decent citrus and pine.

Intense hop aroma; looks great. This has an initial good hop flavor but the alcohol flavor quickly overcomes everything and anything else. In fact, it makes have to give this beer a fairly poor score. I found the Pseudo IPA and the IPA much more drinkable. kbutler1 (1381) - North Carolina, USA - JAN 6, 2011
Draft. Poured at Pizza Port Carlsbad. Poured into a small glass a orange red color with a slight head. Strong danky, tropical aroma with notes of both citrus and mango. Nice lace. Medium mouthfeel. The high abv doesn’t really show that much. Sweet topical fruit start with some lingering bitterness. Easy drinking. TimE (5816) - Tokyo, JAPAN - JAN 4, 2011
Deep golden amber color. Piney caramel nose. Very rich and heavy. Huge full body. Just too much malt, too big leads to an unbalanced slightly sweet beer. Lots of bitterness. Lots of hops, but ton this down a couple of notches and it would be better. I don’t really like this. jonno (2761) - JAPAN - DEC 25, 2010
BIG toffee and hops nose. Really sweet. More sweetness than bitterness. Perhaps a hoppy barley wine? Lots of alcohol - very warming. Good beer. jredmond (8284) - New York, New York, USA - DEC 19, 2010
UPDATED: FEB 2, 2011 Draft with Linh at Pizza Port (Carlsbad). Pours an amber body with minor haze and nice white lacing. Aroma is ULTRA fresh pine and citrus hop. Mouthfeel is great with fresh citrus notes, pine needles, sweet caramel candy. This was listed as 11% - which seemed almost unbelievable. Very similar to Hop15.
