Poured hazy brownish black with off white head, aroma had notes of toffee, pine, grass, some roast, dark fruit, touch of chocolate in there as well. Taste and body resembled a black IPA or hoppy porter, the designation as an imperial stout threw me a bit, but nonetheless a pine, grass beginning led into roast, coffee and chocolate, hints of sweet dark fruit and toffee finished fairly bitter and dry. bb (9789) - Alamo, California, USA - OCT 7, 2011
Draft. Blackish beer with a tan head. Chocolate aroma. Chocolate and caramel flavor with coffee. Medium-plus bodied. Chocolate and caramel lingers tih coffee and backing hops. douglas88 (9688) - Portland, Oregon, USA - OCT 4, 2011
On tap at GABF. Pours a pure black color with a medium tan head. The aroma is bitter dark chocolate and hops, some caramel. The flavor is very nice; a rich dark roast with some bitter hops, light pine. A little bit of chocolate. A nice Black IPA or hoppy stout. hivemind (933) - New York, New York, USA - SEP 12, 2011
On tap at Pizza Port (Carlsbad) with Andy, James and Dallas for Dallas’ bachelor weekend. Black pour with a light caramel head. Faint aroma of chocolate, but not a ton else on the nose. Palate is very hoppy and body is light to medium with crispness and high carbonation. Easily drinkable and refreshing. jredmond (8769) - New York, New York, USA - SEP 12, 2011
Draft at Pizza Port Solana Beach with Andrew, Brendan and the big boy daddy dad Bachelor, Dallas. Pours a deep black body with no head, no lacing. Aroma is sweet chocolate. Mouthfeel is medium with notes of tart, light roast, chocolate and hops. Pretty interesting.

On tap at the brewery with the bros for dallas’ bachelor party. Probably better fitting as an American strong or bipa. Strong sweet malty upfront and bitter hop in the finish. Burnt crust and caramelized DeputyAndy (636) - Ambler, Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 10, 2011
At pizza port solana beach. Black pour with mocha head. Roasty nose. Taste is highly malty with strong coffee presence and hoppiness. Almost black ipa. potbeerjob (1343) - Denver, Colorado, USA - AUG 21, 2011
OLD GABF. Chocolate burnt and flowers. Flavor goes burnt and relatively dry to finish. PRetty hoppy and really good. SamGamgee (2585) - down the whirlpool, California, USA - AUG 16, 2011
Draught at Solana Beach. Black with a tan head. Big piney and fruity hop nose mixing with lots of dark chocolate and coffee roasted grain. Robust and somewhat balanced, but not overly sweet at all. Nice chocolate covered citrus finish. I love the mix of flavors and wish more brewers were making stuff like this. JohnnyJ (5569) - San Diego, California, USA - JUN 27, 2011
Black pour with a large tan head. Roasted malt, dry dark cocoa powder, pine, and citrus bitter hops. Overall a dry roasty, hoppy stout, medium bodied. It doesn’t stand out, just a nice "easy" drinking IRS.
