UPDATED: JUN 29, 2004 Rerate 06/29/2004: This batch definetely does not qualify as a Swami light, as my original rating implied. The hops are VERY pronounced in the batch. Citrus and pine in great harmony. Wow, this is a really great beer. Original Rating: On Cask (Solana Beach). Cloudy, golden color. Pine and citrus hop flavors. Agree with jeffc666, that this is a Swami-lite; still bitter but slightly more subdued. Overall a great beer. Vac (2445) - San Diego, California, USA - AUG 1, 2005
Pours with an amber body topped by a thick, lasting head with lots of lacing. It’s slightly sweet and malty yet bitter and hoppy with notes of pine and a touch of pepper. Medium bodied, smooth and a touch dry. dhlesq (233) - Thousand Oaks, California, USA - JUL 23, 2006
Solana Beach. Aroma of big coriander. Appears a medium-light copper, with some effervescence, and with a nice head. Flavor is of a good malt base, supported by big piney fresh hops. Palate is medium to medium-thick, and appropriate. Overall, this tastes like the Experimental Ale gravity’d up a bit. GriffinAvenue (396) - Winchester, Massachusetts, USA - JUN 17, 2007
Draft. Orange, tea in color. No head. Very hoppy, apricot-orange. Evokes reminders of Bells Hopslam. Well done. Sampled @ American Beer Fest in Boston. jeffc666 (1984) - Fairfax, Virginia, USA - JUL 23, 2003
Cask-conditioned, very hoppy aroma and flavor. Good citrus flavors from the hops. A step below the Swami's IPA but still a VERY hoppy beer.

draft at solana beach:
Yellow brown color with medium white head. Aroma is full of hops, maybe a touch of sweetness, lots of pine. Flavor is very bitter, all about the bitterness. Is there any malt in this? A good brew, not at all balanced, but does the hops thing well. Nice full palate. zug4abby (288) - San Diego, California, USA - JUL 19, 2005
on cask @ pizza port. this was a special treat for a sunday night. smooth and creamy with a fairly mild taste for an ipa. beautiful golden color and decent lacing. WeeHeavySD (3399) - Portland, Oregon, USA - JUN 13, 2008
Cask @ Real ale, listed as Mike’s Pale ale, and it tasted like an IPA. Pours orange with a 1 finger tan head. Nsoe is huge and hoppy. Taste is sweet and hoppy with lots of resin. Ungstrup (39108) - Citizen of the universe, DENMARK - JUL 8, 2009
Draft at Solana Beach. A hazy dark golden beer with a lazing orangey head. The aroma is lovely hoppy - citrusy - grapefruit, lime peel as well as malt and caramel. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of hops lending it lovely notes of grapefruit and grass, leading to a very bitter finish. Nice. DavidP (1747) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - JUN 18, 2006
Tap @ Solana Beach. The chalkboard said "Mike’s RIP Pale Ale". Clear brown-amber body, frothy white head. Sharp citru srind aroma. Pine/grapefruit with the usual caramel malt in teh background. Big hoppy flavor - orange, lime, resinous pine over pale malt. The finish features a lingering bitter plant stem + grapefruit. Medium mouthfeel. Wonderfully balanced stuff!
