03/11/2012 Brasserie 4:20 (tap). Nera, densa, impentrabile, schiuma color cappuccino, abbondante e incredibilmente persistente. Al naso sentori di malti tostati, caffé, leggero cacaco, liquirizia, note di pane bruciato. In bocca è prevalenetemente amara, con note di malti tostati, crosta di pane bruciato, caffé. On tap at Haymarket’s PP takeover. Black with a creamy head. Strong coffee chocolate creamy nose. Nice but there is a hint of rubber in there. I can’t tell if it’s the beer or glass. Creamy medium body. Creamy rich chocolate flavors. Not burnt or with much black patent. On cask at PP Carlsbad. Pitch black pour with fluffy beige head. Roasty wood aroma with touches of chocolate. Insanely creamy and smooth mouthfeel. They served this one at the perfect temperature to be able to separate and appreciate all the different levels of this brew. Creamy, velvet milk chocolate meets bitter roasted patent malts. There are some very subtle undertones of dark fruits and coffee that make this brew so dynamic. Quality stuff. They need to barrel age this thing.

UPDATED: JUN 7, 2012 (Draught) Pours black with a brown head. The aroma holds chocolate up front with undertones of coffee and dark caramel. Hints of liquorice, dark fruits, brown sugar, tobacco, earthy hops and blue/blackberry jam. The flavour is light to medium sweet, medium bitter and tiny acidic with notes of coffee, dark chocolate, salt liquorice, earthy/leafy/citric hops, dark fruits, dark berries and tar-ish asphalt. Pours big and black as "night" with a huge brown head. Nose is coffee, chocolate, wood, , dark fruits, nuts and grass. A lot going on in the nose. The taste is a perfect balanced bittersweet with a slight coffee tart tinge that really gives the taste a unique dimension. On tap at Craft Beer Co. Clerkenwell, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out tons of dark chocolate, dark cocoa powder, and a little roasted malt. Flavour is rich, full of rich dark chocolate, some dark cocoa powder, and a touch of roast. Very rich and full-bodied, full of chocolate richness, while being nice and dry on the mouthfeel. Keg at CBC Clerkenwell during tap takeover. It pours a dark brown colour with a ring of brown bubbles. Sweet aroma of chocolate, cream, coffee, and dried fruits. Taste is chocolate, bitter coffee, roasted malts, and a nice bitter hop bite. Toffee and vanilla swirl from time to time with hints of caramel. "Nice So Cal rendition of a Russina Imperial. Sweet, almost sticky, full bodies and full flavored. Roasted malt, licorice, dark fruit, chocolate, coffee and hops in equal measure. Smooth too."
