On tap at Final Gravity. Pours dark brown with a nice tan head and a huge coffee aroma. There is a full-bodied chocolate malt flavor with a lot of coffee and a warm bourbon trail.

(En fût à la source): Figues et raisins bleus dans le bourbon qui farcissent une boule chocolatée. C’est plus mince que le nez le laisse croire et l’alcool y est pour quelque chose.

Tap in OB. Pours deep, dark brown. Aroma is maple syrup, vanilla, oak, faint booze, chocolate, caramel, cookie malts, and dark fruit. Flavor is chocolaty and sweet with lots of maple syrup and caramel notes, coffee, faint smoked meat, soft vanilla, oak, and a spicy, boozy finish. Medium/full body.

Draft at Pizza Port OB. Pours dark brown with a creamy tan head. Tastes like rich roasted coffee, dark chocolate syrup, burnt toast, light ash, and smooth booze. Light/medium body and medium carbonation. Smells like rich roasted coffee, chocolate malt, booze, and woody with light ash.

UPDATED: MAY 17, 2013 Woodshed 2.0. Growler share courtesy of nbutler11. It pours out with a dark mahogany body that supports a thin tan head of foam. The aroma offers up straight up whiskey and sweetness and some soured oakiness, hmm, interesting. The taste is similar with smooth strong whiskey booze notes mixing with sweet molasses and chocolate chip cookie. Nice. This is a rich yummy brew.

Growler shared @ Woodshed 2.0! Man, oh man, is this a bourbon bomb! Squid ink pour with a small latte cap that leaves as a swirl. Heavy small-batch bourbon, Godiva, Starbucks, and vanilla with a hint of thick-cut country bacon. Smoky richness is present, but not prominent. This one needs a little bit of balance and doesn’t quite live up to the sum of its parts. Still delicious, don’t get me wrong!

DocJitsu (2025) - Pensacola, Florida, USA - MAR 30, 2013
Pours a nearly black opaque with a taupe head. Pizza olives, greasy spoon smoke exhaust, and fresh brewed coffee comprise the nose. Did I just pull on this glass of stout or did I inhale when the mesquite BBQ fire smoke got blown into my face from the shifting breeze? The mouthfeel is thick, wet and slick. Meaty, smoky, coffee flavors. So good. Quite different. I only had so much room in the cooler, so I had to choose the Downtown Johnny Brown 25th Anniversary Cherry Stout for my take home growler. Next time I’m in San Diego, I’ll be carting this bad boy home.

iowaherkeye (2703) - Ocean Beach, San Diego, California, USA - JAN 20, 2013
Tulip at PP OB, sign says it’s "Blend #1" and 9.9 ABV. Looks as expected, small tan head that swirls down to a ring before long. Will add more later. Smells and tastes like the base beer, but with a lot less coffee and some bourbon oak notes--the fresher bourbon variety, not the old oxidized Angel’s Share bourbon. There is faint acetone in the nose, much moreaapparent in the flavor. Too bad. Only the tiniest bit of sour. Mainly just lots of mail polish remover. Dry finish, bitterness peaked at a 3, a little alcohol present. Low carbonation, medium full body. OK.

3.2
AmEricanbrew (6878) - Same Trailer, Different Park, Louisiana, USA - DEC 15, 2012
San Diego Strong Ale Fest 2012. Black body with no head. Big bourbon vanilla, wood, dark roast, astringent tobacco aromas. medium body with light co2. Dark fruit flavors with whiskey vanilla, dark chocolate, wet wood-astringent tobacco finish--decent
