3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tap at PP OB. Black body with a small tan head, fading to a thick ring and film. Chocolate covered cherry in the aroma, some roast behind. Flavor follows, just a little cherry sweetness at the beginning that turns roasty through to the lightly burnt finish, dry with bitterness at a 2-3. I just get a touch of oak in the flavor once it warms, and the cherry really opens up in the aroma. Medium smooth body with low prickly carbonation. Pretty good--would liked a touch less burnt, and a little more oak. 7-4-7-4-14--3.6

4.9 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Pours a nearly black opaque with a taupe head. Smoky ashtray, biscuits and bacon gravy, cherry, coffee and chocolate aromas. Mouthfeel is nearly perfect for the style. Smooth, creamy, but not too thick. Milk chocolate up front, smoky olive to malt vinegar, with cherry emerging late. Finishes pretty quickly with a fading feature. This one’s a keeper.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap @ Downtown Johnny Brown’s: It took so long for the pint to be filled because it kept creating the most monstrous amount of foam while pouring but eventually the pint was topped off and had an acceptable layer of foam head. As of the liquid, it was jet black and looked similar to dirty used motor oil. Aroma was sweet with a base of malts that gives off a smell of chocolate milk and malt balls such as those Whoppers candy. The flavor is subtle with a lactic milky flavor but strangely there is almost no evidence of cherry for me to taste. But, there is a nice addition of roast malts that comes out in the finish making this worth the 8 minute wait for a pint.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
[on tap at OB Pizza Port]
Toasty malt aroma with a little vanilla and cherries. Opaque black under a lacy tan cover. Sweet toasty and bread crusty malt flavour with vanilla and hazelnuts. Not a whole lot of cherry. Balanced toward sweet. Medium to full body, low carbonation, sweet finish.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Served on tap at Port OB a few times now. The appearance is a deep brown black with a nice lacing light brown head. There is a really nice medium roast malt profile that gets a bit aggressive with a burntness at times. Some baker’s chocolate, light doses of oak, the cherry has seemed to change each time I’ve had it. At first it was a little more fruity dark cherry, then it became abit more medicinal, and the last time I had it it had a sour side to it. Mouth is medium bodied with a moderate creaminess. Solid brew for sure.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draft at PP Carlsbad. Dark hazy brown pour, light tan head. Cherry flavor (kind of dry and chalky), old dried red cherry skin, roasted malt, and maybe a very slight touch of chocolate. Medium body with a lot of lively carbonation, too much bubbly for me. It’s OK, but not something I would be drawn to get again.
