On draft at PP Carlsbad. Black pour, with a light tan head. Big dark chocolate and licorice, dark roast, notes of dark dried fruit, quite bitter, a bit salty and smokey, and brownie. At 7% this is big and flavorful, the body is smooth, creamy, and rather heavy. A winner.

On tap @ Pizza Port Bressi Ranch. Black in color with a finger of mocha colored foam. Slightly smokey and a lot of licorice candy on the nose. Salted almonds, roast, light tar, and a bunch of chocolate sauce. Flavor is a bit heavy on the chocolate and burnt sugars. Lots of licorice in particular. Some bitter smoke, roast, and tar. Notes of dark fruit and some mild hops on the finish.

joeneugs (6372) - Livermore, California, USA - MAR 11, 2015
On tap at the Beer Baron. It pours brown with a thick tan head. The aroma is chocolaty with roasted malt, bread and minor notes of treacle. The flavor is bready, toasted with a little black licorice, caramel and coffee. Low bitterness and subtle roasted malt in the finish. Full bodied and pretty tasty stuff.

[ Tap ][ 4oz ][ PP Ocean Beach ][ $1.50 ][ Tasting Cylinder ][ 2.8.15 ]
>> Deep near black pour, okay tan ring of foam, minimal retention. Nose is savory, dark chocolate, smoke, salt. Taste is bitter, oily, dense, richer, powerful balancing hops. Spicy, savory, velvety dark chocolate. Quite bitter, no obvious sugar, big roast and char. The more this beer warms and opens up the more impressive. Marmite, double chocolate cookie, decadent body. Feels much richer than 7.1% Wife loved it.
